Starring: Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu
Directed By: Adele Lim
Synopsis: The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey's (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo's eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

  • 1:31 Audrey's parents' excitement at her making a friend is genuinely one of the cutest things I've seen

As an adopted Asian American growing up in a predominately white suburb, I feel this. Funny enough, I remember facing racism like this as a child. Two kids were calling me “China Man” (even though I’m Korean) and one of them knelt behind me while the other pushed me over. I went crying to my dad and told him what happened and he told me not to come crying and to stand up for myself. I walked directly up to the kid who pushed me and punched him square in the nose. Maybe not the best way of solving conflict in hindsight, but yeah… totally felt this opening scene.

The relief on the parents’ faces (all four of them) is just wonderful.

What makes me so mad is that the teacher didn’t do anything to the children that were bullying Audrey.

Joy Ride is literally just the Hangover but with girls and it is absolutely fabulous.

The way Lolo's mom smiled when she saw Audrey was also Chinese made me tear up... ❤️
  • @hezahaubeza
That opening alone made me want to watch this movie.
  • As someone who is adopted, idk why but when those kids said that she mustve done something or that her mom just didnt want her, it made me sad 😢 ive always heard “oh but do you ever want to find your REAL parents” and it always breaks my heart. Why cant some people just mind their business. Hilarious movie tho wish i had someone like me (same ethnicity) as a friend when i was growing up

Literally what I needed as a child. My brother and I were the only Japanese kids in school and I would have loved to have one person to keep my head up. Sadly, I ended up being the one to keep my own head up. Still no friends.

i kinda just want to watch a series of them as kids… the movie was alright but the opening just made me want to watch more of that
  • I was not prepared for the opening scene at all and it was fantastic 😂

Lolos facial expressions are everything! She saw he hurt her new friends feelings and she was like..nope! Uhuh!
  • @DZ110
LOL, what she said about "Look at all the white people." in Chinese was actually "So many foreigners" but the fact is they are the foreigners:face-purple-crying:

And that’s how bullies should be dealt with. No more talking!
