Zheng Qinwen became the first Chinese and Asian player to win an Olympic singles title at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 21-year-old tennis player overpowered Donna Vekic of Croatia, 6-2 and 6-3, in Saturday’s gold medal match. In a post-game press conference, Zheng said she had felt even more determined to perform well at the Olympics, as she knew her family and supporters from China considered the Olympic Games more important than any Grand Slam. She said she had “made history” and hoped to have more fun on the court in the future.

  • when you are only 21, and your Asian parents can't complain on your hobby, it is the highest achievement you can make
  • She is soooo well spoken even not speaking her own language but English. Chinese,,,,, never short of talents.

Feel the pride of being a Chinese and Asian!

I really agree when she said her best achievement was her mental strength. Well done girl ❤❤❤
  • @Woestheboss
She had the perfect mentality during this Olympics. The real Olympic spirit!
  • It's okay that only one person doesnt respect you (Navaro) because more than 1 billion people whole-heartly love you very much..Olympic 2024 Tennis Queen!
  • Finally, we have the long-awaited 'breakthrough' at the top level by a Chinese player. Tennis has been crying out for a genuine Asian champion able to compete on equal terms with Europeans and North Americans and those from 'down under'. Zheng Qinwen will bring more colour, humility and entertainment to the sport with her warmth of character and bright personality. A time to celebrate!

This is one of the most open and honest communications in the tennis history. Congrats Qinwen and her team! Can't wait to see her winning one of the grand slams and many more to come.

Zheng was on a different level in her Olympics matches. You could see it in her eyes. During the finals, she was more relaxed than Donna. I feel and I hope this will translate into more success in the WTA tour because she got a "New Achievement Unlocked" moment, that "light bulb moment" that she knows she had it in her, always had it in her to win in big matches.

Her English may not be grammatically correct but it is SO PLEASANT to listen to her speak that language. She's got a very calm demeanour that makes it all so easy on the eyes.

Every asian kid knows you are never enough until your parents are satisfied 😂. An Olympic gold medal is a big relief for a lifetime 😅
  • @stigie19781
I love how humble and self instrospective she is... and she s right, it is the mental strength that will get her through!
  • @wynn3077
A thoroughly deserved win, well played.

She made me 😭 cry. Specially when she said, I lost to Iga 6 other times, I was losing 0-4, I felt a strength holding me, in a normal match it would have been different. But in an Olympic match, athletes can feel their Country behind them. Specially the Chinese people.

Zheng is well-behaved, like her idol Roger Federer. She doesn't say anything disrespectful, boastful, or bad about her opponents and fights hard. I'm sure she will inspire many young kids to play tennis. I can't understand the hatred of her opponents towards her.
