Wow! I can't believe I finally finished another video. For context, this was like my 4th video I tried making. The first one I spent over a month on and was going to be titled "The History of Every Minecraft Achievement/Advancement (I got them all)". It was a video where I got all ~205 achievements/advancements to ever exist for every edition and version of Minecraft. It had over 500 GB of storage and an 11 page script before scrapping it entirely. So, if anyone wants to take the idea and make it themself, go ahead!

Also, this isn't the final character design, it should be changed by the next video.

Before any of you comment it, yes, I know I pulled out the wrong disc in the intro lol

The only real issue I have with the newer soundtrack is that it plays a lot more often than C418's music and kind of feels like it's drowning it out. It has been a good while since I heard a older song in the menu screen.
  • @Bendytube72
Dude your snappy animations alongside the commentary is great bro! Such a unique style, please keep it up!
  • @floofykxtty
the issue with emphasizing location is, its minecraft, if the player really wanted to, they could completely tear down a biome and make it into something else, and then the music doesnt fit there anymore, imagine a new update track playing in 2b2t’s spawn, like an ocean theme, it just wouldn’t fit this is why the original tracks work in almost every situation, its not worried about the location, its worried about you
  • I just hate the fact that the biome specific music plays over and over. I’m tired of hearing crescent dunes play 5 times in a row when I’m in a desert for an extended period of time.
  • @Basegud
one of my biggest issues with the update aquatic soundtrack is that it only plays when you're underwater. Unless you're building an underwater base, the player will never be underwater for long enough for Minecrafts already scarse music cues to have the music used effectively
  • @UUGamez
Compared or other Minecraft youtubers who have loud and eccentric voices, your voice brings a fresh breath of air to the community
  • @HoundHere
I love minecrafts old soundtrack because of the wonder and imagination that i was filled with while listening to it new minecrafts music emphasizing location just doesnt fill me with the same wonder that i felt when i first played it on the xbox 360 I cant tell if its the music or nostalgia but i just cant seem to love the new music as much as i loved the old music upon hearing it for the first time
  • @ArcherR135
My personal hangup with the new music: It’s too damn loud. I literally can’t hear myself think when a newer track comes on. Instead of trying to be atmospheric, the new tracks are trying to be the whole atmosphere. It’s like that one friend that recommends a game to you, watches over your shoulder, breathing down your neck and constantly going “You enjoying yourself yet? You should do this thing. Oh, look at that! That’s really cool, right? RIGHT?!” C418’s tracks on the other hand are the friend who recommends a game, sits next to you while you play, and occasionally goes “…Liking it?” Infinitely more atmospheric, since it adds to the atmosphere instead of trying to BE the atmosphere.
  • @FierceDIO
My biggest issue with the new music is how location specific it is. C418's soundtrack is more about the gameplay than the atmosphere. The Nether, the overworld, the End and creative mode are all different in gameplay while the menu has no gameplay and they all have different sounds. Then they added music for underwater which also has different gameplay from the overworld. I think Daniel even wanted to add cave music but Notch didn't know how to detect if the player was or wasn't underground at the time but I might be mistaken. My point is there isn't a large enough gameplay difference between biomes to justify a change in music with the exception of the deep dark. I also find it weird that they keep adding more music every update like yeah the swamp is pretty cool but does it need it's own music and 10 advancements to go with it? (Which advancements are also something I have issues with.) And also it doesn't sound like Minecraft music to me so I usually play with a resource pack that removes anything not C418.

Nice video. I do think I feel different when it comes to C418’s Minecraft music. When I listen to the music, I don’t look at it with nostalgia because I never heard the music when I played all those years ago. What that allows me to do is to see that C418’s music was not only good but amazingly better than all the new music when you compare it with no veil of nostalgia. The quirky and minimalistic sound of Volume Alpha truly fits the game and even sounds good when comparing it to mainstream music nowadays. In Volume Beta, he takes that minimalistic approach and doubles it into emotional and beautiful songs. Take Alpha (the song) for example, it starts off with a small piano piece and then evolves into an orchestral song with strings and drums which is just perfect to listen to. Even his update aquatic music is amazing to listen to as well. He takes that orchestral feel and makes it slightly minimalistic again to kind of complete his work on the game like a full circle. The new tracks feel so industrial and made without emotion. The overly orchestral music kind of parodies C418’s Beta album and makes me feel like the music is dead. C418 himself has actually made more music for Minecraft, a whole new album that is estimated to be longer than Volume Alpha and Beta combined. The only problem is that Microsoft and Mojang don’t want to accept the music to be put in game because of C418’s 10 year old contract with Notch back when Minecraft was a tiny indie game. The contract said that C418 has all rights to his music and no one else owns it except for him. He just allowed Minecraft to use the music for him. What’s even worse is that C418 can’t even release the albums outside of Minecraft because it has Minecraft’s copyright in it. It’s a whole big thing but I just want to say that C418’s music feels alive not just because of nostalgia, but because of the emotion he put into it. He was the one who made Minecraft feel alive.

The 1.18 soundtrack is my absolute favorite out of all the newer music. There's just something about it that touches a really deep part of me. The song "Comforting Memories" brings me to tears whenever I hear it, as it makes me reflect on past experiences in the game. I get so nostalgic for 1.18, as when that update dropped, I was still very new to Minecraft and was still experiencing a lot of things for the first time. On top of that, it's just so...emotional, in a way. It stirs me in a way I can't explain. I agree that it will never beat the original music, but for me, it's a very personal experience whenever I hear any of the 1.18 songs ❤️
  • There is one artist over youtube, Ickemms Music, who made remix of Minecraft's popular and modern discs, as if "they were played in the ovrrworld." Coincidentally, thry sounds a lot like if C418 made them. And in such way, feels more like Minecraft. Quite underrated. If you have the chance, I woud recommend checking them out.
  • @rippedbarny
I feel the same way- nostalgic for the old music, but completely infatuated by all the new tracks. The animations you did were so cool, and your other videos were amazing- can't wait to see what you do next!
  • @andrewpeutherer
I personally have a texture pack and mod pack that makes it C418s tracks only and makes it play more often I would've liked the new ones if they weren't so freaking long
  • @lilchromie
Im impressed that you went the entire video without mentioning the change in composer from C418 to Lena Raine (most famous for her work on celeste) as of the nether update.
  • @RyanSoltani
This was a great video Andy! My personal experience with the Minecraft music is a bit different than most at least I think. When I first started playing Minecraft I would keep the music on but after a little while I turned it off since it kept distracting me from what I was doing in game and also because I couldn’t control what track it would play. So whenever I listen to the music I tend to get specific memories of me playing Xbox One Edition, the early days of playing Pocket Edition, and just scattered moments of me playing the game whenever I decided to turn the music back on for fun. C418 sure was a master at crafting some fantastic music for the game. It’s a shame that the only way he can get Minecraft to release his 3rd Volume of music is to sell the rights to Microsoft which it seems like he doesn’t want to do. The new music we do get though is great
