If you're picking up Pokémon's latest adventures, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, here are 14 essential tips to help you become the very best like no one ever was

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are remakes of the Gen-4 Pokemon games, with some modern quality-of-life tweaks and enhancements. That means they're a unique mixture of new and old, so if you're an old-school Pokemon trainer or you cut your teeth on Sword and Shield, you may be surprised by some of the mechanics and conventions present in these remakes.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch. The games are available separately as well as in a double pack. If you purchase the game before February 21, 2022 you can claim the Pokemon Platinum style outfit for your character as well as a Manaphy Egg through the Mystery Gift function.

Hey y'all Chris Callahan in the comments pointed out a correction! Dusk Balls only give a bonus of 3 times, and that bonus will apply if you're either in a cave or outside at night -- they don't stack together! Thanks for watching, and for those of you excited for the game, let me know which version of BDSP you'll be playing! (Also anyone excited for Pokemon Legends: Arceus???)

I never understood picking the strongest mons for the game. Pick the ones you like. No matter the team you CAN beat the main quest. Why limit yourself to something that is stronger but you don't like as much?

I've just started playing Shining Pearl and it already takes me back to when I played the original Pearl on the Nintendo DS. It was one of my favorite Pokemon games of that time
  • Besides all of these tips, I have one that's really important (and I wish I knew before) - So if you are trying to have the full experience of bdsp, you will want to get national dex. For that you need to spot all 150 pokemon from the Sinnoh dex. All pokemon are easy to spot with the exception of Drifloon (can only be found on Valley Windworks on fridays). So if you started the game on a friday you cannot get the national dex until next friday UNLESS you fail a math question on Fantina's gym (Ghost type gym). That way, you will battle a trainer who will have Drifloon. The rest can be easily found and if you have any doubts on any pokemon, Serebii is there with the info.
  • 15 years ago I've played with piplup just fine. I'm sticking with piplup because he's my favorite and I don't mind the little challenge

It definitely caught me off guard when I came across the NPC’s who give you Mew and Jirachi. Having played the old versions of the games, this moment in the game had me reading the dialogue box word for word very carefully! 😅😅
  • Bonus tip: Pokémon in the Grand Underground have at least one egg move. I spent some good time down there! Worth it!
  • This is literally just a Video for someone who knows absolutely nothing about Pokémon.

This game (along with soul silver and heart gold) was my childhood... Seriously I would be playing it constantly. I would love to give the remakes a go someday

Great QOL improvements. Also a little thing I've noticed about the exp share. Most goes to the ones who battles. Then it drops down so that the lowest levels always gets the most EXP. Idk the percentages. But say there was 700 from a battle. I wanna say 700 exp to the battler. The weakest would get 200 exp 2nd lowest 180 3rd 160 4th 140 5th 120 6th lowest 100 Idk how pokemath goes. Anyone who knows anything about EV training knows how deep that raboot hole goes. But in my experience my Starter can almost never battle and still maintain his one level higher lead. Or if you ONLY use your starter the rest of the team will finally catch up to being virtually same level as the starter. (Like up to 1 level under) This is great cuz if you in water type area your mineral pokemon (ground, rock, steel) can stay out of battles yet dont need special training to catch back up. Its super helpful on gyms where one type can wipe all the underlings AND gym leader. The old system would mean you'd have almost 3-5 levels over the team, the way experience is given now. You wont be slowed down but actually just wont be required to swap out. What I dont know is if EV points are given out. Cuz certain pokemon/trainers must have perfect EV training. I will say Crobat is a great partner and somehow can wipe easy even against rocks. (Absorb, high speed, high attack, and bad poison must be a part of it) Heck I'm only scared of static ability electric types.
  • 5:40 It should also be noted that the fewer Pokemon in your party the more XP your party gains, and any Pokemon participating in the fight they more XP in Pokemon who have not I would still like to have Exp as a toggle tool bc i like to steady ev train and at times like to have a strong Pokemon in party in case of an emergency, well also not having to worry about overleveling

8:18 Hey for new players the part of the pc where you can access anywhere, that function unlocks when you meet Bebe for the first time. Which happens when you comeback to jubilife city for the second time. Hope that helps.
  • I preordered brilliant diamond and ordered my switch Cant wait to play it bc i played the original pokemon diamond in my ds back when i was a kid and when the news first arrived last year i was SO HYPED
  • @sven-zq9hi
Had a shiny gyarados is the original so I’m going for it again in this version 😂 kinda wanna start with a shiny magikarp though, the grind is fun 🤷‍♂️ the whole “legendary red gyarados” had me hooked and me being so young was determined to find one 💀😂
  • @champkmaq7510
The reason to not skip trainers isnt because of xp 🤣 its cause you need to battle them all to "complete" the seen pokemon portion of the pokedex to unlock the national dex.
  • @AngiePhoenix85
My starter tradition has always been Fire types. And he is RIGHT about Chimchar. Just make sure he is evolved before you hit the rock type gym. Monferno also being a Fighting type is beneficial against Roarke's rock types
  • @coryw3339
I chose turtwig and the game was extremely easy until the final boss after the elite 4, who I beat after about 3-4 tries. One shot everything else except for losing once to the gym leader with lucario, who caught me off guard and beat me once.
  • @migaish_
I didn't expect to get Mew from a random NPC, so the old lady saying "oh you've been on an adventure before in Kanto, right?" Actually scared me 😂 Having the game read my files brought back DDLC memories
  • I really REALLY wish you at least had the option to turn off the EXP share, like you did in X and Y and ORAS. Everybody leveling up all the time with no effort or strategy makes these games way too easy.
