Police in riot gear have arrested several pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the University of Southern California after ordering the large crowd to disperse. Authorities have also created a skirmish line as dozens of other protesters are refusing to leave on Wednesday night.

Some people cooperated and began walking off campus, however, over 100 people remained, including a group gathered in a circle and standing with their arms linked. Officers began surrounding the circle and the nearby crowds began chanting, "We only wanted peace!" and "Hands off students!"

Officers began arresting several people from the circle before some voluntarily surrendered. The protestors remained mostly peaceful throughout the demonstration outside of several isolated incidents. Earlier in the day, a scuffle erupted between law enforcement and pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the University of Southern California Wednesday, prompting school officials to close the campus to all but students.

The protesters, including students and off-campus participants, erected banners and pitched tents in Alumni Park early in the morning, a scene similar to demonstrations occurring on many other college campuses in the U.S.

KTLA's Rachel Menitoff, John Fenoglio and Gil Leyvas reported on April 24, 2024.

  • How cute, young college adults still thinking their voice matters. Meanwhile the rest of America hates their guts.

Please go to palestine with your free speech where you need to be
  • These protesters need to go live in Palestine. See how they like that
  • Because somehow USC can stop a war in a totally different country.
  • Most of those students no little about Israel or Palestine, and don't care to learn their history. It's just an opportunity to gather together, make a little noise, and feel powerful, as though they were fighting injustice.
