The Man Who Inspired Banksy

Published 2022-07-29
When visiting Blek le Rat's studio in Paris this July, we discussed the history of his work and the future collaboration with Woodbury House. An artist inspired by Richard Hambleton, who went on to influence one of the most recognised street artists of all time: Banksy

Street art is perhaps one of the purest expressions of the populace. It is the graphical representation of how the streets themselves are feeling.
When we find ourselves struck and inspired by the works of others, it can push us on to want to emulate and transcend in our own way.
Gallery works by street artists are a way of preserving the feeling, the mood, the place in time. It should be viewed as a permanent record of a specific moment.

Awesome! This dudes an OG.. just don’t understand why enough galleries in Paris haven’t taken on his work? Very much well deserved.

Didn’t Banksy originally say he didn’t know about Blek until after (total bullshit). Said something like, every time I think I did something original or new I find out Blek le rat did it 20 years before. He straight up jacked Blek’s style and passed it off as his own.
