설악산 가을 세 번째 행선지는 오세암입니다.
강원도 인제군 북면 용대리 설악산 백담사 탐방지원센터 앞에서
첫 버스를 타고 백담사로 향합니다.
어둠이 채 가시지 않은 구불구불 비포장 길은, 차라리 아무것도 보이지 않아서
천 길 낭떠러지 두려움을 떨칠 수 있었습니다.
옅은 구름이 하늘을 덮고 있어 아침 해가 늦어질 것 같습니다.
하지만 일출을 만나러 가는 길이 아니기에 발걸음을 재촉할 일도 서두를 일도 없습니다.

구곡담 계곡의 맑은 물소리가 길을 안내하고, 영시암에 들어서자 드디어 햇살이
내려서기 시작했습니다.
선방 툇마루에 앉아 물 한 모금 들이키고 이내 오세암으로 향합니다.
너덜겅에 흐르는 졸졸 시냇물 소리가 숨바꼭질처럼 나왔다 사라지기를 반복합니다.
가을은 이제 절정을 향해 치달아서, 너덜겅 물소리가 잦아들자
세상에서 가장 아름다운 아침이 산등성이에서 내려섭니다.
이 눈부신 아침은 2년 전 지리산 칠선계곡에서 만난 적이 있습니다.
그때도 그 빛이 너무 고와 한참을 서성거렸던 것 같습니다.
나무꼭대기에서 지저귀는 산새도 첫 만남이고,
바람에 밀려 지나가는 구름도 모두 첫 만남입니다.

The most beautiful morning in the world descends from the ridge.
I met this dazzling morning two years ago at Chilseon Valley in Mt. Jirisan.
Even then, the light was too bright and it seems to have stood still for a long time.
A mountain bird chirping at the top of a tree is also the first meeting,
Even the clouds that are blown by the wind are the first encounters.

기억도 가물가물한 몇 해 전 여름에, 하염없이 양철지붕에 비가 내렸습니다.
처음에는 양철지붕에 빗소리인 줄 몰랐지만,
어느새 소리에 빠져들고 있는 나를 발견했습니다.
보이는 것에 극도로 맞춰진 현대사회에 우리는 점점 청력을 잃어가고 있었습니다.

당연하듯이 받아들여지는 각종 소음과 소리…….
우리 감각은 균형을 잃고 청력은 점점 퇴화하고 있습니다.
한국의 숨겨져 있는 보석 같은 풍경과 그 속에 담긴 잃어버린 소리를 찾아
여러분과 같이 나누려고 합니다.
낯선 풍경에서 새로운 친구를 만나 같이 웃고 우는 시간이 되길 바랍니다.
