Civic Buddies: "A Chair For My Mother" [01.05.23]

Published 2023-01-09
Middle-schoolers from Lewis & Clark Trailblazers Afterschool Academy regularly lead virtual after-school read-alongs with students at Lothrop Elementary and Sherman Elementary. "A Chair For My Mother" by Vera B. Williams tells the story of a young girl who, along with her waitress mother, saves coins in a big jar in hopes that they can someday buy a new chair for their apartment, the kind of chair her mother deserves after being on her feet all day. Into the jar also goes the money Grandma saves whenever she gets a bargain at the market.
