This week I give an overview of how to optimize the Monk class for D&D 5e, including why we want to play it, the challenges it presents optimizers and an initial guide to how to optimize it through multiclassing. This is in preparation for my Monk Masterclass series, where I will create an optimized build for Every. Single. Monk. Subclass.

No additional links to provide yet as this is a new channel, however I would like to give a shout out to the D&D YouTubers who have gone before me. I stand on the shoulders of giants. Very nerdy giants. I'd like to thank:

  • I don’t think I ever thought about how the monk’s features are spread among so many different roles. In a game built on working with a party, being kinda good at everything means someone else in the party will be better than you at everything. This completely changes how I look at monks—not that I thought they were a good class, but more that in order to make an effective monk, you really have to choose which features to focus and amplify and let the rest fall by the wayside. Thanks for that.

First! But also an opportunity to apologize for my first ever upload. Quality from writing through to editing is a work in progress. I've already learnt a lot from uploading this video and I think I will learn much more over the coming weeks!

  • I would like to see more constant and passive abilities that don't run out so quickly. One thing I have considered is to have one ki point come back when the monk crits.

Is the unarmed fighting style feat from tasha not worth taking on monk?

Why not duelist just hold aka wield a weapon in your off hand then never use an off hand attack while being able to deflect an attack per round as an action seems awesome
