"Alright well I wanna play the Wizard..." - Mike The first words of this podcast are words that would change Dungeons and Dragons forever.

This, this is the historic place where Jim Darkmagic was born. I come here every year on pilgrimage to pay my respects to the ultimate magician.

Though I love shows like Critical Role, these old Acq Inc. episodes really strike a cord with me in how the table actually plays. The way they argue and joke and shit-talk with one another is way more like my own group Chris is also a really casual DM. He doesn't write big descriptions or dramatically acy his character (not that he couldn't), he just sits back and tells it like it is

I love how poetic and legit Chris is being, meanwhile... "Jim Darkmagic" "I wanted to get Butt in there somewhere"

2023 and still rewatching. Makes me emotional hearing this all over again. I love you guys!

Its so neat hearing them work out their characters and such, especially knowing how big Acquisitions inc. becomes
  • @Roguenjosh
12:10 Chris saying 'Acquire' FOR SURE put 'Acquisitions' into Jerry's head to name the team
  • @socratac
Chris Perkins is a really delightful DM :)

27:30 "High rolls are always good." triggers flashbacks to the airship battle
  • @kfrews
The pit of acid was introduced within the first 30 minutes, What a wonderful foreshadowing.

"You did not tell me this involved math", this is priceless

Holy shit, hearing the beginnings of everything is super interesting. So like, Mike just made up the name Jim Darkmagic on the fly? Omin Dran being a CEO was a joke at first? I wonder if they ever knew how big this would get.
  • @braquemar
When they're joking about fell-dark-ominous joke names, you can hear Jerry whisper "Omin..." to himself, like he's gotten a bolt of divine inspiration.

"Well i want to be the Wizard" 7 words that started on of the greatest D&D experiences I've ever seen. It's been a good journey, and hopefully it keeps going for a while longer

I think it's neat to listen to these guys actually getting together for the first time and finding out what it was like there during the creation of the characters like Jim Darkmagic when it sounded so silly then, but now it's practically a household name! ;) Also, acquisitions inc.

This is where all the legends of Acquisitions INC begin.
  • @duttdits
I've gotten myself caught up on a critical role and I've come back here to my roots to listen to the first D&D podcast to get me started listening to D&D before I was even a player.

So I stepped away from dnd during college back when 4e was the current version. I come back to it after making a new friend group that loves dnd, and nobody has a clue what I'm talking about when I bring up AI and Chris Perkins. So I just keep raving about the legendary Jim Darkmagic of the New Hampshire Darkmagics.
