I love how this is all based on the initial minion's height.

I think the minions' heights are very exaggerated. Especially considering that normal people in that universe appear 3/4 to 4/5 the height of Gru. He's still a massive absolute unit, but normal people tend to reach his shoulder or chest. So either the minions are considerably shorter, the measurement system of that universe is very skewed, or 10 ft is the norm.
