Climb aboard Amtrak train 68, The Adirondack, for a ride south from Montreal Gare Centrale to New York Penn Station. Enjoy the view from the picture windows of Amtrak's only dome car as the train rolls through the Quebec farmland and along the shores of Lake Champlain. The leaves have begun to turn as autumn rolls into the Adirondack and Green Mountains. Night falls over the Hudson River as the train races south from Albany after changing locomotives and dropping the dome car. On this journey, train 68 was no more than 5 minutes late at any station, and arrived into Penn Station several minutes ahead of schedule.

Finally! A video that documents the Albany to Montreal section of this train in detail. One thing I notice here - for anyone who wonders why this train takes so long to get from Montreal to Albany, this video shows why. First, note the landscape along the Lake Champlain shore preventing much track straightening/speeding up of the line. Second, notice how slow the train travels within Canada, and how it speeds up notably once it crosses into NY. Canadian National Railway (the host railroad in Canada) has let these tracks deteriorate so much that it doesn't appear it can go any faster than 50 MPH, with multiple sections where it can only travel at 10 MPH!!! Hopefully this can be resolved to a reasonable degree which, with the planned move of Customs inspections to Gare Centrale should speed up this train's schedule significantly.

Thanks for posting! Took Adirondack from Whitehall, N.Y. to Montreal in early Sept of 2012., then back to Whitehall in early Nov. The section along the western side of Lake Champlain is spectacular. Same year, in Oct., took the "tren frances" from Santiago to Habana.

Great news: Paxrail saved the Amtrak Great Dome Ocean View.

It’s Saturday February 2nd 2019 I moved here to Florida in 2003 but when I was living in Fresno California I went with my Special ED Class to San Francisco on Amtrak. It was really fun. I am watching this YouTube video on YouTube Premium that I pay $15.99 a Month for.

There was a couple old Electric locos that sat for quite a few years that were used to haul the steamers cars into the station and sat rusted just outside until they were repaired and fresh paint, used for service in Montreals Metro service,Only Electrics in Canada that im aware of! It was also quite a thing to sit up front in the Turbo Train early 70s just behind the drivers entering the station, got a view of everything around!

Does it have seats where you can lay horizontally?

Question Amtrak’s Adirondack and Maple Leaf conductors and engineers change at a particular station?

Wow, The Ocean View is still in service? I knew it was being used earlier in the year but I thought they would've put it in storage for maintenance considering the distance traveled and thee age of the Equipment.

Why is it soooo slow at around 25 minutes? Are the tracks in so bad condition?

Maybe not so many moves in different directions of camera would give better views. Otherwise very nice video.
