I first want to admit that I made mistakes and had events happen which led to me almost losing my life. I have learned my lesson from this experience.

On May 4, 2022 I had a very close call with death. The first half of the chase went well and the storm was moving slow enough to where I could hook slice for several hours. I caught the first tornado of the day from a distance which wasn't visible on camera. I then got great footage of the tornado crossing the highway within a mile of me, eventually I positioned myself under the remanent circulation. This storm produced tons of CG lightning, I was almost hit twice, but I only found one clip. At that point, the RFD had passed over me and I was behind the storm so I had to punch through it to regain dominance of the storm. In this process, I was overwhelmed by the noise and wanted to move a mile south just so I can think, which was my first mistake. Going down the muddy roads, I quickly realized how bad of a decision that was, so I went north, then east towards Lockett. At that moment I realized that all of my radar apps were not updating and I could not fix it, keep in mind I am on muddy roads. That was my second mistake, while I could follow chasers to safety, the best thing to do was most likely escaping west. I eventually made it to the highway and went east to Lockett which was about 3 miles away, it was exactly 21:00 at that point. While driving east I made it through the hook and try to gain any visual of the tornado. At this point my friend called who was following me earlier called me, and wondering where he went, I answered, which was another mistake which distracted me from the very dangerous situation I was in. Not only that, but I was not actively tracking the storm which led to me enter the iron sights at 21:09 and I remained in the outskirts of the tornado until it ended.

When chasing, please take care in everything that you do, and always stay with other chasers unless you are confident in doing so.

  • Damn. That was really close to you. Some beautiful lightning and twisters in the beginning of the video turned scary and nerve-wracking at the end. This is why I will never night chase. Stay safe my friend. I am happy you're okay.
  • Mark peyton vlogs and his friends were also recording there when they escape 5 tornados in one day
