Edit: Apparently Canary Island autonomy was in 1982, but revised in 2018. My mistake. Macaronesia, funnily enough, is not the opposite of Micronesia but rather means “Islands of the Fortunate.”
  • Fun fact: The Azores are the only place in Europe (along with Georgia) where tea can be harvested in its natural environment.
  • I'm glad you mentioned the Guanches - they get left out of Canarian history so often

Thought it was a belated April Fools joke, instead learned that all those islands off of West Africa actually have a name

Was hoping to see Portugal's extended EEZ claims too, but otherwise great video!

Love that you made a video of my homeislands ❤ Quick note, I know they were tiny and we barely have any records before the conquest, but there exist data on the states of the Canary Islands (depends on the island) before the invasion. The kings in Gran Canaria were called Guanartemes, who ruled over Guanartematos and ther existed two on the island, Telde and Galdar.

The autonomy of Canarias was way before 2015. At least from 1982
  • Fun hypothesis: There is some archeological evidence of carthaginians setting foot on the Azores

Btw, its ilhas selvagens (selvagens/wild islands)

499K subs, I wonder what the 500K sub special will be
  • I'm surprised there wasn't more shenanigans in the Canary Islands during the Spanish Civil War.
  • @ChilSquad
You should make one about the sudanese civil war
  • @QingChina1
Sounds more like a video for April 1st.

Why did you made the canary islands autonomous much after they started the autonomous community?
