After almost five weeks of use, I have made some mods to make this unit safer and more pleasant to live with. Oklahoma has been very hot all summer (100F+). This unit has been awesome while working out in the garage...should have gotten one years ago.

The white stuff you were talking about on your cooler is calcium deposite in your water. You can get some cleaner to mix with the water to slow or eliminate it altogether.
  • @jedibike
That white stuff is calcium. Every few months, take your pads out & spray some CLR on them. Let that CLR soak in the pad for a few. Then give them a good rinse & they should be good to go again.

Snatched one of these up from Home Depot in Georgetown, TX today. All I can say is "OMG". 100 degrees and 25% humidity in the garage, this thing is blowing out 79 degrees. It feels like sitting in front of an AC. My only complaint is not purchasing a swamp cooler decades ago. Read the manual, and let the fan run for 30 minutes without the water pump running to dry out the pads before shutting it down for the night. Cheers šŸ»

Online filter and bleed off valve help to keep calcium deposite from forming.
  • So i shouldnt get it for the dirty south summer humidity is 80 and above.šŸ˜”

Add a bleedoff to drain off water from the reservoir. You will get at least one more year out of the pads. I also start the season by spraying off the dirt from the pads and reservoir. Year 2 on the pads I add a gallon of vinegar and run the water pump only for four hours and rinse

Couple of things that I used to ā€œmodā€ mine were 1) smart outlet plug so I can turn it on/off set timers with my phone 2) get a nice garden hose filter for it so that youā€™re water going into the reservoir is clean, itā€™ll mitigate build up as well (also can install a cheap sediment filter on the garden hose as well) BoogieBrew makes a filter that has like a 50k gallon capacity and itā€™s about 40-50 bucks Iā€™ve been looking into installing a new float valve because the one I have leaks by the white plastic so sadly I have to manually add water with my hose šŸ˜¢
  • @bradcuewalker
I assume the white stuff is calcium build up. Hard water?
  • @cutweldngrind
Cool video. I need one of these for south texas, but they are a bit over my budget. I think its time to build one....
  • @billyfolse1316
They need to put a PELTIER water cooler on these to cool the water. Been thinking about adding one to my portacool. Louisiana is hot as hell
  • @DairyAir
That wouldnā€™t work, in Wisconsin. Itā€™s to humid. On hot days the humidity is 65-70% outsideā€¦
  • @rahilraza1344
Dont you think it would be much cooler if the garage doors were closed???
  • @user-sd6ck8vy1h
Donā€™t know your state. Swamp coolers only work in very low humidity
  • @howiesmith6132
I bought one of these.... Took it back the next day. Not worth the price. Better off buying a cheap industrial fan. I would never buy another one.
