I disagree, the anime doesn't lie. It's about cooking and food through and through. To eat is the privilege of the living.
-
The first half of the story makes you believe Dungeon Meshi is about cooking. The second half makes you realise its actually really about EATING. From something civilized and comfy, to a base act that is instinctive and primal. Anime-only watchers are in for a BIG treat, and I'm glad this anime has been attracting a lot of eyes.

To be fair to Marcille, she did NOT know that Falin would turn into beeg chicken. That was all on the Mad Mage.
-
Dungeon Meshi is not a Cooking Anime Its about Eating.
-
The tone shifts feel so natural because a lot of the comedy is rooted on how raw nature is, so instead of feeling edgy the blood and serious topics feel more like a matter of fact about the world. Great video!
-
I can't believe some people call Marcille selfish and mistaken for using spell on Falin. Like, doing that to save your friend from eternity of torment of being bound to the dungeon is peak selflessness. Marcille knew it would land her into hot water and possibly ruin her life and ambitions, but she valued another person's wellbeing enough to make that sacrifice.

So to summarize, it is basically a typical DnD campaign with a DM that can make good twists and the dice gods being the dice gods.
-
Laios accepting that he has become schizophrenic until Isutzumi starts to notice his "visions" as well was probably the moment i understood that Laios is actually the most sane
-
The best trick they pull, and they've done it several times, is present something completely innocuous that you don't find out until much later was pivotal to the entire story. "I'm just going into a few paintings for some wacky hijinks, annnnnd now the dungeon lord has a grudge against me because I showed up at all of his important life moment because it was basically time travel."
-
6:56 there the Sword was ready to fight against Fallin because it sensed the Dragon in her

I disagree that Marcile made a selfish "mistake" the show makes it very clear that death inside the dungeon is not permanent. and though people call what she did "dark magic" its also explained that this is really just a spooky name given to magic that is only forbidden because people dont understand how it works. its not inherently evil, and the only reason that it failed the way it did, is because something more sinister is afoot in the dungeon. Shes following the rules of the dungeon, and is using magic that she is one of the foremost experts on.

The ability to flip between Silly and serious is practically a staple of Trigger

Wouldn’t be the first time an anime lied to me. “Attack on Titan”, “Madoka Magica”, and “Magical Girl Raising Project”. And these are just three that shocked me the most.

WE HAVE TO COOK!

Bro when you switched to the stock photo at 1:39 I swear to god I thought it was gonna be a skillshare ad, this app has broken my brain

Came for a positive Anime review who appreciates the Anime and Characters, but stayed because of your editing skills and beautiful voice. Can't believe you have only this many subscribers. Keep it up. I hope your videos get the attention they deserve! <3 Fantastic Job.

I gotta give props for actually coming back and revisiting it once the anime had more time to breathe to give a much better take on it! I especially loved that twist that you incoporated in the video, in the same vein of the show, of pretending you thought the show did a complete heel turn into grimdark before coming back and explaining that the real strenght of the show is the tonal juggling between these two, seemingly incompatible elements! The first few weeks of this show had it be completely overshadowed, which is how the manga was at first, but the anime had a lot less time to actually catch the audience to have the attention needed for a season two, but I'm glad that the moment the manga exploded, the anime did so aswell (the Red Dragon of course). Props to the anime comunity for demonstrating that they CAN stick through a show's slow start!

that gurren lagunn reference gave me Vietnam level flashbacks

The resurrection magic helps a lot in keeping the tone light. It allows such a dark scene to happen, while reducing the consequences of the monster attack. The audience still feels panicked during the fight, because the party will pretty much stay dead if everyone dies, but it can return to comedic once everyone gets resurrected.
