When he spoke about how slaves descendents should be buried there too and why, I got so tearful. Hes so right. They built it!
  • When the gentleman said “they built it, they should be buried there”, I choked up…. Amen, it couldn’t have been said any better! Bravo!

I applaud the white dude for speaking the truth. Takes a real man to do that. You've got my respect 👊🏾

This white man has me crying. I love his acceptance and openness.

When he said "they built it" chills went all over my body! Being biracial is hard. Trust me. Both sides makes it hard.

I’m in my 50’s and can honestly say I’ve learned more history about #3 in one YouTube video for free than I did in my 4 years of high school. ❤️

The white guy and his wife get it and we need more open minded people like him

Lucian, he’s an evolved soul. America and the world needs more of him.
History doesn’t need to be REWRITTEN. The TRUTH needs to be told.

Don't know how I am just seeing this, but, when the two ladies initially hugged, then looked into each other's eyes, you can see a natural warmth of love and embrace. As well as the gentlemen. It's proof that color is not what divides us, it's ignorance.

This is so beautiful 😍 thank you Oprah for bringing this story to light. I wish all could be as accepting in regards to their family history and the secrets. So much hate in the world. This is LOVE!!!
  • It’s disgusting to hear “did Sally and Thomas have a relationship” Sally was 14 there’s no relationship between a 14 year old and an old man! 40+ yrs is old compared to 14 yr old child.
  • What's even crazier is that they weren't only related to Jefferson. His wife, Martha Jefferson was Sally Hemmings' HALF-SISTER! So they were relatives at both sides of the family.
  • I know that this show was done over 20 years ago but it has been so awesome to watch today, I really hope that these families have stayed in touch and shared stories of their family lives over the years since Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings have passed away over 180 years ago
  • What I find most strange is that they keep saying the black side and the white side of the family when they’re all on the same side. Sally and Martha were half sisters and related through their father.
  • It's awesome how honest and "tell it how it is" the white descendants of Thomas Jefferson are. If only everyone had the same mindset as them the world would be a very different place 🖤🤍

Much respect to Lucian and his steadfast moral compass.

When he said they built it I immediately started to cry ❤️

This is a solid conversation. I miss talk shows like this!
  • This was a very interesting, history lesson for me. I am African American and Native American and I was adopted. I have heard of Sally Hemmings only recently as I have been teaching myself & learning more about my history. I wonder if these families are still in contact and what is their relationship now with their relatives. It would be nice to see an update from this show's episode.
