It is no secret that the powerful Thor from the Marvel comics is based on Scandinavian mythology. In the Nordic myths, Thor also has his famous Mjolnir hammer, a unique weapon that always hits its target and returns to its owner. Thor can also control lightning and thunder by pressing the hammer's handle. But most importantly, this weapon is so heavy that no living creature can lift it. Except if Odin believes that the person is worthy to do so. And, in fact, there were more characters that could do it in the original comics than you think. Today we're going to tell you all about them. But before we start, subscribe to our channel, if you haven't done so already.

  • With Mjolnir, you can either lift it or not and there's no middle ground where you just budge it a little bit. Cap sensed immediately that he could pick it up if he wanted and chose not to out of humility and respect for Thor

Meanwhile Stan Lee casually lifts Thor's Hammer and wipes off the coffee table under it in one of his cameo appearances as the housekeeper. I loved that he was in so many Marvel Universe Movies.
  • You forgot his sister, Hela. She grabbed it out of the air and then crushed it with one hand.

Actually mjolnir isnt heavy, the magic that Odin placed on the hammer was specifically made for worthy people only, but without the magic it can be lifted by people with superhuman strength

Thor's hammer is only wielded by those worthy.True and pure of heart,as in those worthy to rule Asgard
  • "Vision was made with the help Tony and Thor" Bruce Banner: trying not to turn green
  • I love the scene at the end of avengers age of ultron when Steve and Tony were arguing with Thor about how an elevator isn't worthy, but if you put the hammer in the elevator, the elevator still goes up. Lol
  • @ollybnntt
just to clarify Steve could pick the hammer up fully but he didn't because it was the only thing Thor had
  • My theory is that Cap was worthy the entire time, and upon realizing he could lift Mjolnir in Age of Ultron he chose not to so he wouldn't embarrass Thor during their celebration, which is why it moved a little bit. You can't be like half-worthy, you're either worthy or you arent.

In Thor Love & Thunder, Jane Foster was able to live the hammer only because Thor (unwittingly) put an alternative spell on it. She wasn't necessarily worthy, the new spell took priority over the worthiness spell. Throg had a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in a Loki TV series episode.
  • My man really said “controls lightning by pressing the hammer” like it’s not a button and furthermore doesn’t need the hammer to summon lightning
  • Well the lore behind Thor’s hammer is “no LIVING thing can lift the hammer” and if vision is a android it would make sense if a non living machine could lift it
  • @KoulhsTax
I think the reason that vision lifted it is because he was powered by the infinity stone. Something more powerful than Odin's spell. And thats why even thanos could wield it. He already had some stones. He was the most powerful being on the universe.

Superman with Mjolnir and the Shield is the most iconic piece in the history of comics It means that despite their differences, they have a mutual interest for each other and wouldn't want to see the other fail
  • Luv how Thor face looked when captain almost had the Hammer lifted SHOUT OUT FROM PR 💖(PUERTO RICO)
  • This overlooks the scene in Thor: Ragnarok where Hela is shown to have previously wielded it. There was an image of her holding it as she was explaining the history of how Odin conquered the 9 realms.
