i picked a hoyt powerhawk fully dressed this spring for $250 from my local pro shop. thats always a good place to start looking around for a good used bow. people looking to get started in archery can also ask around. everybody knows somebody that has a now sittin around collecting dust. i have found that the archery community is a very friendly and helpfull family to be involved in.

If you are talking about investments under armor cold gear is the way to go, I have had my cold gear for 8 years and there is almost no wea (I say almost because there is no visible wear other than a little pilling)r and thats with over 100 days of hard riding (snowboarding) a year. Its a bit expensive initially, but well worth it in my case and you dont have to size up on clothing (Which I hate to do) because it is tight fitting and incredibly warm, seriously in the mountains of CO I have spent some frigid nights hiking and night riding and been comfortably chilly with just my cold gear and shell, and definitely not sweating. Good insulation requires dead air and wind proofing IMHO. As far as bows, dont get hung up on having the latest year model. I just got a bear authority for 250 in a bid on ebay, brand new its just a 2015 (or 2014 im not sure but really who cares) just because they want to get rid of their stock because bear just came out with the marshall which is coming in and replacing the authority at the 500 dollar pricepoint. 50% off a brand new bow just with a bit of searching.

I used a dremal to cut my Walmart arrows and used gorrilla glue to glue the new insert in
  • @timothyrose7581
you can easily cut down allen arrows or carbon express & use a bic to heat up the hot melt & take your inserts out. also gives you the chance to align your broadheads with your fletchings
  • @kaleharvey855
I do the same with gloves not roping much in winter anyways... might as well use em
  • @jharlowrose1
you forgot Parker bows. they always have ready to hunt packages

Hey ike as you prob already know because ive been getting tips off of you for years on low budget products for hunting. Flea markets and yard sales are the way to go but in late season when its cold and no ones is having yard sale and no flea markets i think walmart is hands down the cheapest your gonna get. But the Bargain caves and clearence sales at dicks, sports auth, cabellas and all those places are a good start to start looking for next years goods. stock up at the end of the year

You can pick up plenty of PSE bows for less than 500 bucks, the Stinger X, Brute force, and Surge, all under 500 bucks and Id put them up against most bows, out in the field

Bought a 1 year old Bear Species bow with the kit - still had the tags on it. $400 msrp, paid $150 on ebay.

Got my buck on friday. On a budget. Injured my finger so couldn't draw my bear attack. Bought 175lb pull recurve crossbow from sportsmans guide for $150 and double lunged the buck at 15 feet from my blind. He went 100 yards and it was game over.
  • @Rok9380

Ike thanks for all tips, provided for newbie archery. While a good Crossbow is my Ultra dream. I have been following Chris Tanner's 'Preparedmind101' Channel on prepping. He suggested that I get a recure Samuas Sage bow first to learn to shoot first, before I spend a ton of money on a good to excellent Crossbow. He feels that I should learn to shoot, first, as a Veteran, I was able to shoot at three good sites. I plan on going to the local archery range, I don't want hurt a neighborhood kid. I plan to moving to a take apart compact bow for when SHTF, so I can attempt to be small as a target. Is there a bow that you might suggest as a good learning bow. I am 67 & wish to be able to protect myself, if needed. Am not, into guns. Could you please suggest a bow, that might be a good 40-50 lbs, bow that you would suggest?
  • I've got a camo south land archery rage dual cam 65# bow that you can buy right now on overstock.com for $199 plus a little extra for the accessory kit and I love the thing. It's not quite as fast as some new bows but 270 fps was enough for me and I've never had a problem with it. I'd recommend it to anybody at all looking for a new budget bow
