  • For people who still don't get the point. This is a method tailor made for the environmental and usage of rural roads of Southern India which receives heavy torrential rain for two annual monsoons seasons and then have hot tropical summer. So the roads here are destroyed mostly from fluvial erosion, combined by additional destability from expansion cracks during summer. Not from physical wear and tear from load bearing heavy traffic. And coconut fibers are one of the most toughest and decay resistant fibers in nature which were once used for making nautical ropes. They will not rot away for almost a decade, especially underneath asphalt where the soil does not have any microbial activity. As for the environmental impact of the fibers, coconut palms are native flora of coastal plains of India and are a staple in traditional South Indian cuisines as both oil, as coconut milk and as soild coconut meat. Even the cake left after oil production is used. Every single household will have atleast one coconut palm in their property. Coconut fiber- coir, is such an integral part of the culture of this area that their is a government body, Coir Board dedicated for the procurement, development and sale of coir products. The husk from which coir is made, will only end up as being agricultural waste that can only be burned because of its highly resistant nature, unless it's used for another products. Coir Geotextiles are extensively used in this area for slope stabilization, river Bank stabilization and to prevent landslides here.

Coconuts and bamboo are abundantly grown in India. It's gratifying to note that extensive use of these biodegradable products are used to the maximum extent keeping in mind environmental health. A large number of unskilled labour force is employed in these manufacturing companies providing livelihood to them.
