Here is my dog Rocky. He is is 3 yr old Belgian Malinois. Yes they are awesome but they rarely have an off and will want to play all day! If your sleepy, sick, tired, they will still need to be worked. Watch my Mali and enjoy, but understand the drive. Yes the are cool dogs that can do amazing things, but working malinois aren't for the lazy. These dogs want to work all day, their who life. So if you think you want a belgian malinos think again. Thanks for all the support

We’ve owned Belgians for years, mainly Tervuren’s. It’s heartbreaking when people see videos of the Belgians working and decide they want one but have no idea what it takes to maintain them. Super loyal, protective, and one of the smartest breeds period. I love my Belgians.

It was this video 2.5 years ago that motivated me to get one of these magnificent creatures. I am the proud owner of a Belgian malinois and have been very happy the last 2.5 years. And so is he. Worth the energy to keep them entertained. Lots of training and commands. Always learning, they aim to please.
  • Dude, that dog has showed more discipline in 90 seconds than I ever did in my entire life

Guy at my gym had one that he brings in every day. He said it took 4 years for the dog to only be energetic 18 hours a day instead of 24 hours. He is a great dog but the intensity is something most people have never seen. As a puppy he chewed the couch. By chewing the couch he meant the only thing left was the wire frame and any metal parts.

When I lived with my parents, we had a Malinois X Greyhound from the shelter. Best dog ever. Outside the house, she showed best of both worlds. Very obedient, also of the leash. Always kept by my side, without formal training. When she had the 'okay' to go, she ran like crazy. She had the natural desire to please. Sat when I asked, always walked by my side, looking at me for a command. Once I forgot to say 'come, girl', and she was waiting on me, 100 feet behind. I bet her previous owner taught het, but it came so natural to me. She was the very first dog we met at the shelter, and it was an instant click. She was very social with strangers, especially kids. Kids called her 'Bambi', because of her disproportional ears. In-house she was a couch potato, but very protective. Unfortunately, my parents divorced and Byoux, that was her name, ended up with my mom. My dad and I lived 1 mile away. One night, she escaped from my mom's house and got run over, probably looking for me. I feel sick to this day, 20 years later. Best. Dog. Ever.

    nice remote controlled dog
  • I’m sure If you said “leave!” , he’d stand on two feet, get the keys to your car, and casually drive off

Really appreciate that you're emphasizing the commitment - the amount of time and work - it takes to be a responsible and good guardian to these dogs. Thank you!
  • I had mix breed who lived to the age of 17. Totally agree with this summary. They are amazing dogs. My dog Rocco was the most obedient kind hearted and loving dog I have ever met. It has been nearly 3 years since I lost him, and I miss everyday he was my shadow. RIP Rocco.
  • 100% on this. My brother trains with Police and SAR teams, had two GSD's, both from Czech working dog lines. There is a big difference between a dog breed from your local breeder and one from a working dog line. The latter can come with a bloodline that can sometimes go back over a hundred years, all bred for a specific purpose and they all come with an unbelievable amount of drive. His GSD's basically had two speeds: sleep and 110%, there was nothing in between. They are truly incredible animals BUT, as you said, its literally 24/7/365. My brother isnt married and has no kids and always said if a woman ever told him "its me or the dog", he'd send her packing. Sadly, all his dogs have passed and he has since stepped away from it because it literally dominated his life for about 20 years, but its an experience I always truly appreciated. Much respect to you as you probably have over 1000 hours into this dog.

I absolutely love the fact that the dog couldn’t off looked happier and satisfied is testimony of the dedication the guy holding the ball

As a kid growing up my father brought home two male dogs that were a cross between Belgium and German Shepherd and we ended up getting rid of one and keeping the runt of the litter who turned out to be a magnificent canine 🐕 I remember being on leave from the Army when I had the shitty job of holding him when he was put down and yeah I didn’t cry but my heart was ripped out watching the family pet be put to rest ! That’s the hardest part, not the training or the damage they do when they are puppies but when you get so attached to these beautiful natured animals and the time on Earth they get is short . .
