Elu's Mini Greninja Guides - Is Pivot Cancelling Useful on Greninja? (Greninja Pivot vs Skid Cancel)

Published 2020-02-12
Please check out my new channel! youtube.com/c/EluTranBugFables Pivot Cancelling is a technique used by multiple characters to cancel the run animation and do a sliding tilt. This is done by turning around during the run animation and then performing a tilt in the forward direction. If you would like to learn more about this technique, check out this video here:    • Pivot Cancelled dtilt/utilt Applications

However, on Greninja, Pivot Cancelling is not as useful. This is because Greninja's tilts do not cancel his momentum. This means that Greninja slides the same distance, regardless of doing a pivot cancel vs a normal tilt out of run.

A comparison video can be seen below, with footage courtesy of @nic:3 .

The biggest use of pivot cancelling with Greninja would be to gain slightly extra distance when doing a forward smash out of run. Otherwise, there is no difference between a pivot cancel and a skid cancel tilt on Greninja.

Addendum: Pivot Cancel Utilt and a normal Pivot Utilt have slightly different timings and aren't necessarily the same thing. Regardless, you don't gain any extra distance with a pivot cancel using utilt.
  • Holy goodness me I remember watching your undertale theme videos around 3-4 years ago and I never knew you made smash content :O

Hey, I first got to know your channel because of the UNDERTALE soundtrack, but I'm a Smash fan as well (in fact, I ended up playing Undertale mostly because this game ended up being represented in Smash). I'm not a Greninja main, though (I main Ness) - but it surely is my favorite Pokémon (Pokémon is another franchise which I really like, although I'm pretty sad with what they did in Sword and Shield, especially because many of my favorite Pokémon ended up being cut - emphasis on Greninja). I'm glad Greninja isn't bad in this game, though - this Pokémon surely was having a nerf time in Smash 4.
