This is part one of a two part series explaining the history and practices of the starter city-states! These videos take a lot of time, research and work so I really hope you enjoy them. I'll be making sure part two comes out at a reasonable time on my end, enjoy!

So weird that we (as players) found out about Ul'dah's action against Sil'dih during the Hildibrant quest line. One of the darkest acts in the game told in one of the games most light-hearted story arcs.

Sometimes, very occasionally, I forget how dark the history of each city-state truly can be. Thank you for that reminder, that we might reflect on these errors in the hopes of avoiding them in future.
  • Ah yes time for my “oh shit that’s fucked up” moment for the day

As someone who considers their in game home to be Ul'dah, thank you for consolidating information like this! I already knew about the traders spurn, that Little Ladies Day was connected in their history in some way, and that the line of Ul was not always there. It was shocking to learn that Thorne was a Hyur too. Excellent lecture :)
  • Thank you for the heads up about the echo. I think it is something that people glance over. But having a door open to hearing or seeing the past what expose you to terrible horror. It's a wonder that people with echo aren't driven absolutely insane or treated as such by their neighbors.
  • I was always confused about the part of history with the Thorne Dynasty. Glad to hear you explain that part and how the Ul line continued from there.

you know i always thought the city states history was dark and cruel but none to me matched the horror that visited sil'dah thank you for showing us this tragic chapter

So, I’m going to record my thoughts here. The first thought was “Oh wow I had no idea that Aethericyte crytal network had such a history and danger.” My character might be a little more hesitant about using them. I don’t always use them because sometimes I do prefer to run and admire the scenery. But I admit that I knew the horrific fate of Sil’Dah at the hands of the undead plague. But I didn’t know that the location of Ul’dah was built on that site. And I freely admit that history plays a part in why Ul’dah is my least favourite city or city-state in FF14 that I’ve been to so far. But there are other reasons such asthat I don’t like the Syndicate having the real authority. If a group of citizens are to rule then it needs to be a fair sampling of the population. Rich, poor, noble, commoner, merchant or people from all the castes, and racially balanced. Lalafell, Hyur and every race that has a decent population in Ul’dah by percentage. I don’t like the obsession of money and tying it into a measure of someone’s worth. Oh and how I hate the corruption that permeates it at every level. All that being said it’s still an interesting place. Limsa Lominsa is my favourite but with Gridania not far behind. Since I’m only lvl 66 Smn, Sch and Whm in the early stage of Stormblood I can’t yet judge places like Doma or Ala Mhigo. But judging from what I’ve heard about other places I seriously doubt that I’d like Sharlaya

Always such good content. It is soul crushing to see you not as popular as you should be. Please keep making content. Take care of you first though!
  • I REALLY love the dedication, hard work and awesome lore that this channel provides about the game. The videos are all very masterfully made and are full of great information.

love these videos so much, really helps someone who's not super familiar with the lore like myself
  • @Winter_RainVT
I loved this video. It was very informative and interesting. Lots of things check out as I recall some things from my playthrough including hildibrand's quest line. I could like it more if there was some visual citation of sorts where things like this were found out however.
  • @AegixDrakan
...Even though this was the first city that I came to, and it's where the FC I'm part of is based out of...I've never liked Ul'dah. It's always seemed...So rife with corruption. And now, learning that it unleashed a genocidal plague of undead at one point? Yiiiiiikes. ._.
  • @HikingFeral
When I first started playing, I got lost so many times in Ul'dah that I wish Sil'dih would have wiped them off the face of the star.
