Here’s why they still sell. Bomb proof engine, trans, driveline. Unstoppable reliability. When you are 250 miles out in the middle of no where Toyota 4Runners and Landcrusiers are great peace of mind!
  • Chris, Overbuilt + under-stressed = longevity. Of all the 4Runners you cannot find on a dealer lot right now, the TRD Off Road is the one I miss the most.😉 I think we can all agree, a 6 speed manual would go a long towards the elimination of the gear hunting problem . 😁

I bought a 22 4Runner TRD Off Road premium back in February and I am absolutely in love! Would recommend to anyone who is thinking about buying one!

In 2018 my dad bought a TRD-Off Road brand new for $3000 under MSRP ($36,000 new) in Barcelona Red and it hasn’t lost 1 dollar in value over the last 4 years / 35,000 miles

Love you Topher you're the reason why I started my YouTube channel 🔥

Also the manual shift transfer case and big HVAC controls are awesome. None of that push button junk like on a lot of vehicles.
  • @DizzyMan24
Love these things. So well built. Wish they still offered the manual like the Tacoma.

Great review. I have a 2021 TRD Off Road Premium which I think is the sweet spot in the 4Runner lineup. I expect to drive this thing for the next 10 - 20 years. Can't beat their reliability.
  • @SpartanG6
Laughed at the escape hybrid comment, I could instantly picture it. One other nice thing about that side exit exhaust, you can drive around with the hatch window down and it won't suck the exhaust into the cabin!

I think people just appreciate an old school honest to goodness simple truck. Most new vehicles r so disposable these days and this is before evs become mainstream. This and the gx does not feel that way.

I love mine. Wanted a GX460 Premium Plus for quite a while. Decided, if I could get a Pro for msrp and get good equity out of my trade I’d go for it. Only took 2 weeks of calling around within 100 miles of me. Constantly being told, “yes sir msrp! Next day: Actually…it’s gonna be a $5k bump bud., no thanks.” I really wanted white or magnetic grey but decided to take a leap with Lime Rush (no choice). Had seen a couple in person but not up close. Bought on a Friday delivered on Monday. After living with it since Feb. It makes me smile every time I see it. I love the attention it gets and it really goes well with the capability of the vehicle. The color is very pearlescent like and has many shades in all types of lighting. The exhaust drone was horrendous at first, I barely notice it now. It rides identical to a current year GX with the exception the GX has amazing handling in corners with KDSS keeping body roll a minimum. Fuel economy? I don’t do much highway driving (65+ mph) the highway to my work has about 6 large hills over 10 miles. I found I’d only get about 16.5 mpg throughout the week. Driving flatter backroads at 55-60ish mph I maintain 18.5 avg mpg per tank, on 93 octane. Yes, I spend the extra $9-$10 per fill up on 93. “To each my own”, recommends 87+ “or higher” still has a 10:1 compression ratio and my 2 cents it just has way better power and slightly better mpg vs 87 regular and 89 mid grade. I don’t find my transmission to be gear hunting that much I feel reminded of the older tcu style it just goes, upshifts when it should it’ll even downshift when I let off the throttle and are coasting downhill. It has excellent deceleration in the drivetrain, easy to go easy on brakes. If I’m not mistaking I’d almost think the tcu is semi adaptive to your driving style. 2900 miles and no complaints about lack of power or gear hunting.

Wow, really great review. Very detailed. Thanks
  • @kyukyoku_
Bought mine way back in November, I've been in love with it ever since! I get compliments on the color all the time! The exhaust sounds pretty burly too, though I'd like something throatier at idle. 4Runner fam for life!
  • I work at a dealer in Ann Arbor- and yes! These cars do NOT stay, we have a lot of certified units. But this car needs a new refresh for sure.
  • Love the Speedmaster Professional... hesalite version with the non-polished mid links, right??? also, great review.
  • @QuadroNVS
Wow, I didnt know these only came equiped with a 5 speed auto!!!!......Well, that Toyota reliability cant be beat, even if the hardware dates back to my grade school days

no idea why theres sooo many haters in these comments. the 4runner is easily one of the best off-roading SUVs you can buy right now. you buy other SUVs at markup and after 3 years you'd be lucky to get half of the original MSRP for it. with a 4runner, you buy it at 55k and 3 years later its still within 20k of msrp, even after taking it off-road and beating the piss out of it, because the thing doesn't break. what a lot of people arent grasping here is the reliability, modularity, and versatility of these vehicles. there's not much else like it on the market right now. toyota's philosophy with the 4runner is if it ain't broke don't fix it, and it's obviously paying off because the 4runner sold like hot-cakes in 2021, at 144k units sold, most successful year for the car yet.
  • @AthwalJag
I love my 22 TRD OFF ROAD, the winter we had up here in central Canada this winter my 4runner made it enjoyable to drive in. The Off Road also has KDSS which is a huge plus for off roading and if I ever do sell I know ill make my money back on it! Can't wait for the Corolla GR review!

I paid 55K for my 2022 TRD PRO and LOVE IT! The exhaust sounds great. If you want a quieter highway vehicle get a stock hybrid SUV. The exhaust noise is a non-issue as its purely driver preference. The 2022 TRD PRO has all the great features of the 4Runner. 2023 might be the last year you can grab this iconic 5th gen design/engine before they do some heavy mods in the Gen 6 models.
