The "in-and-out" bowing technique described by Mr. Zuckerman is a huge "secret" to producing a consistently rich and dense tone. The ergonomics of the arm require this to keep the bow "square" and parallel to the string "sounding point." I've applied the principle for a long time now, but alas spent years before actually discovering this concept for myself. It think this technique is indispensable.

Mr Zukerman comes across as a true teacher; concerned for his student, giving of his knowledge, and happy within himself.  Ms Baillie also comes across as a genuinely wonderful student; most willing to learn, appreciative of her teacher, and submissive to her chosen craft as a means of loving life.  This was wonderful to watch.
  • I didn't realise the girl was playing a viola. She has a beautiful sound and a very fluent bow arm.

Maestro Pinchas says so many important principles of learning in this short video that should be quoted and hang in any studio wall. Just watch the first 4 minutes... to start.
