You have to be careful when burning crayons. I used a crayon to colour some candle wax once but when I burned the candle, the impurities in the crayon put a lot of soot into the room & choked everyone. These can only be used in a well ventilated area. Otherwise, it's an excellent idea.

Thank you so much. I remembered seeing this video in the past. It is my sisters 7th birthday today and i felt awful because i forgot the candles. But we used this trick instead. Thank you so much man. Best of luck from Oklahoma.

I have hundreds of candles but no Crayons.

tried it. works. make sure you have a good place to keep it level though, and you need to flick away ash at the top to keep it going every once in a while. one crayon lasted a decent 90 minutes.

I've already made the deluxe version of recycled wax candle, from cheese wax, old broken crayons, old candles, rancid oil, honey comb a braided string and vanilla extract. I put it in a giant coffee tin and poked holes through the tin to let extra light out and used a wire coat hanger snipped in the middle and str8ened @ the corners to make a nice hanger. 114 nights for at leat 5-6 hours and it's still not half burned down. I love IT! and No the rancid oil did not stink.

Though I'm going to attempt it, I just wanted to know how long they burn for. You said a couple of hours? Definitely better than a tea light. Okay, other than a great survival method for the zombie apocalypse, it's also good for emergencies like earthquakes, tornadoes (after) hurricanes, that sort, especially if there's no regular candles around. Awesome idea! :)

So I got really drunk last night and decided to try this, and I will say it doesn't really work that well. The crayon burns for around 2 minuets but then goes out and is no longer usable as a candle. The reason this happens is because the paper coating on the outside is supposed to act as the wick, but since it is on the outside it burns faster than the melting was, so after a few minuets the paper on the top portion of the crayon all burns away and there is no wick left to sustain a flame. The reason why he only shows the candle burning for a few seconds is because if he had the camera running any longer it would show the candle starting to die after a few seconds and go out completely after a minute or two.
