7029 Clun Castle Birmingham to Llandudno 19 April 2023

Saturday 29th April 2023 saw the running of a Vintage Trains excursion from Birmingham New Street to Llandudno, for the Llandudno Transport Festival.

Hauled by GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No.7029 Clun Castle, it is seen here on a miserable, murky day at Searchlight Lane Junction, just north of Stafford.

Clun had a full head of steam following it's fifty minute pathing stop at Stafford, and is seen working hard up the incline towards Searchlight Lane Junction. Tyseley's class 47 No. 47773 is attached to the rear of the train but doesn't appear to be helping the Castle to any great extent.

Also shown are a couple of trains caught before the arrival of the excursion. First, a Freightliner service, 4M45 from Felixstowe North FLT to Garston FLT, hauled by 66515 and 66531 then a 10 car Cross Country Voyager service from Manchester Piccadilly to Birmingham International , formed of 221119 and 221130.
