When i still had a FB account, one day i sent Leland a quick message to tell him how much i loved his tone, mentionning btw that i wish i could talk to him and ask a few questions. 10 seconds later, i received a reply from him that only said ''Ask''. We chatted for a solid 30 minutes, with me telling him every 5 minutes that i didn't want to hold him up from more important things, and him replying that i had great questions and he enjoyed chatting with me and wanted to continue. It was a pure joy for me to be able to pick his brain about many bass-related things, and he was the sweetest guy.

What Rick brings to us is simply THE FINEST of YouTube.

Leland is in an incredible physical and mental shape for a 76 years young man. Sharp as a knife.

As a classically trained bass player, I have learned to appreciate Leland for 2 reasons: 1. Leland exhibits perfect - and I mean perfect - technique that all bassists should emulate and 2. Zero Ego. Saw him in San Antonio years ago, yelled out his name and he waved back. Priceless.

This guy is 76 and still rocking??! Bless this man and thank you Rick for this enlightening interview!

Lee’s daily YouTube segments and his Clubhouse visits helped so many of us get through the pandemic. He never missed a day. That’s real commitment! As incredible a musician as he is, he’s an even better human being.
  • @RossCampoli
Rick is building a library of music history videos that will be cherished and studied by musicians for generations
  • I went to see Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music a few years ago. The openers took the stage and on bass... holy crap, that's Leland Sklar!!. Met him at the merch table after their set and he was SO nice. He treated each person he met like the only person in the room and time itself seemed to slow down while he gave his undivided attention to whomever was fawning over him at the moment. Just a perfect example of humanity and professionalism.

Leland is the Gandalf of bassists. Unbelievable. And for 76, the guy is in fantastic shape.

Lee Sklar is a National Treasure. Just amazing... Thank you Rick for this interview - and thank you Lee for being you.

I went to Birmingham high school with Lee in Van Nuys CA along with Sally Fields. Lee was not only a wonderful musician at that time but a great graphic artist. I'll never forget the Big Daddy Roth Rat he created on his bass case. So happy for him that he has been so successful!

Not only is Leland the Swiss Knife of Bass playing but he also is a formidable story teller. Incredible life he is living. Thanx for having you both.
  • @ferdberfle5069
This was absolutely the fastest hour interview I've ever heard! Such a fascinating guy. Please get Leland back for a part two soon!
  • @RC32Smiths01
Leland is truly inspiring as a musician. So many decades of experience to discuss, and just a musician who enjoys what he does. Love him so much

This must be the nicest dude alive, what a pleasure to listen to Mr.Sklar.

The man is not just an American treasure he’s a treasure to this world. I’ve been a member of his YouTube channel from 1 month after he started it… what a bass player but more importantly ‘WHAT A HUMAN BEING..’
  • @timbrownrigg5217
Contention for best video on youtube and I'm only 0.01 seconds into it.
  • @DrummerDanVa
The stories from these older guys of when session work was HUGE are gold. This is an era that will never happen again. It is a shame most of that is gone now. Listening to these stories is magic.
  • @freefallin6871
Lee is the consummate professional, and always has been. His credentials are mind-blowing, and he was the go-to bassist for decades and still a big hero to me. Sort of like Jim Keltner on the drums. No bravado, such a class act and probably too humble to acknowledge how important he is in the tapestry of music. Hats off to Rick, he definitely hooked a big fish!
  • Not only is Lee a supreme bass man he is a the perfect gentleman. Another great interview from Rick.
