On the evening of Sunday, December 10, 2023, around 20 properties were evacuated, gardens collapsed, and the Smuggler's Haven Tea Gardens was left 'hanging on' following a large landslip.

The upper section of Leeson Road has remained closed since the catastrophic landslip when 16 hectares – some 14million cubic metres of land – was displaced in what was one of the largest landslides recorded on the South Coast of England.

Most of the residents have since moved back home, but Ventnor's Leeson Road has remains closed.

A rotating slip! Steer very well clear of the whole St. Katherines point area. All of the IoW coast from St. Katherines to about the Needles is eroding rapidly.
  • It must have been terrifying. Would love to know what happens regarding car and container though ….
