I finally got a Digitakt, and this is my first song with it.

I made a rough draft back in January using only the OP-1 and AtmegaBrute, but I got stuck and nothing seemed to help. So when the Digitakt showed up I tried again, and things went well! What I needed was a multitrack song-length MIDI sequencer and a better drum machine, which is exactly what the Digitakt does.

The title, "Easy Does It", was chosen because this was initially supposed to be a quick easy song where the bassline follows a simple blues progression. Blues are easy. But then stuff happened, and it got more complex.

I mean, why not do a 5-part harmony, right? Pffft. EZPZ

If this sounds similar to any of my previous songs, it's because it uses a few ideas from them. In some cases, it even directly reuses some old sequence data I still had on my Keystep. So... yeah. Maybe I should just claim they're all part of the same game sound track and the similarity is meant for cohesion. Yeah, that's the ticket. It's not recycled... it's cohesive!

Oh, and sorry about the credit sequence. I had a related riff I wanted to share, and needed visuals to fill the time somehow.

Plus kittens. There's no such thing as too many kittens.

Who knew the flashlight goddess ToyKeeper also did music? Pretty awesome stuff.
  • Awesome setup! I've mentioned you on my flashlight review and didnt realize you make music too! I compose music using eastweat vsts and midi keyboards too! This is cool! I think i will do a video of my setup and show you! I have a few programs i use but i compose out of fl studo, cubase, and sibelius. This is very nice setup and great music piece you have! I like the counterpoint in this! The instrumentation is brillant for the synths youre running and the samples!
