I spent a day on set with The Forest, a wildly popular Rwandan horror series shot in Nyamirambo. It was so much fun. Unfortunately, it's only available in Kinyarwanda at the moment but hopefully an English dub coming.

The story follows different sets of people who go into the forest but never come out. Inside the forest there are demons, but also a human axe murderer. Each of the people who ventured in are trying to find their way out.

I play Mupenzi, the wife of a preacher (Dumba, played by my friend Pieter). He left home three weeks ago and was never heard from again. I go into the forest to try to find him with two bodyguards.

Later on, I encounter a man drinking water. We try to talk but he only speaks Swahili and I only speak English, so I get frightened and run away. He is actually in the forest looking for his children. I rescued one of them from being sacrificed by a demon earlier in the show, but we can't communicate so I don't realise this.

The show is shot in a forest in Nyamirambo, which is closed off for filming. It's really funny because there's a police station on the edge of the woods. They lend us chairs to sit on. But because they know about the filming, they completely ignore the blood-curdling screams coming from the cast. We joke that you really could knock someone off in there and never get caught 😄

It really was great fun to be a part of.

Sadly, I did a short interview with Swedi/Soloba, the director, but my camera glitched out and I couldn't include it. Maybe next time 😔
