"...the whole point of a system that allows for a lot of personal liberty (is that it) was intended to be checked by private virtue" = WOW and AMEN RYAN HOLIDAY!

“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.” -Marcus Aurelius
  • I love an interviewer who allows his guest to talk👍🏽 thank you both🌹

"When you arise in the morning think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love" — Marcus Aurelius Love how this content is freely given. Thank you Ryan for bringing so much ancient wisdom to the modern world.

I’m commenting before reading other commenters. When Ryan suggested a monument/statue to represent Responsibility, the image that came to my mind is a male and female human holding a sphere representing the Earth, but not like Atlas did holding Earth over his shoulders, but embracing Earth.
  • That line from Dumb and Dumber is one of my all-time favorites. ‘so you’re telling me there’s a chance’ 💕 A fantastic, enlightening 2 hours. Thank you!
  • "I was operating through a fog.." dang felt that. I swear Rich your show is life changing!
  • @watching444
So generous of you 'know it alls' to allow other people to have a different point of view … whewww … so generous.

Courage definitely needs practice, I was cornered by a spider while listening to this, and my courage was non-existent. I screamed for mercy from this 4cm arachnid. And I'm still recovering.
  • @Alexmartinez101
This podcast reminds me of many other individuals who have talked about courage, and how acknowledging fears existence is important because that allows for an opportunity to be courageous : "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." - Nelson Mandela

Great video. Ryan Holiday is awesome guest. both sides such great thoughts and dialogue. love when Ryan Holiday demonstrates courage literally when he corrects "Courage" as not "Masculine" down to even strong and the root of the word. makes a difference.like a huge one - way to. be it , don't say it honest conversation.
  • @darkomusic6796
Both these guys I've changed my life in so many ways. Thank you Rich and Ryan.
  • @CrowMagnum
Sometimes waiting for the right moment to act is the most courageous decision.
  • @GreenTurtle181
That was an awesome discussion. Thank you both. Must go and get Ryan’s book.
  • Love Ryan Holliday. ❤ let's see what he has to say. Been thinking that what I need, just for everyday life is...courage. I've been wondering, well, how do I do that? Meditate on courage? Idk. Hopefully I'm on the right track here, this just popped up in my YT feed....so a bit of serendipity there 💛
  • So glad you brought Ryan on again for a discussion. I always enjoy being an observer to your great conversations
  • @marcd7332
Wow, I finished watching "why stillness is essential" yesterday and now I wake up to this, nice.
  • @hannahrl
Great section on "courage" in service of basically evil ends - can't tell you how many times during the last administration I'd become so frustrated with language used around Donald Trump that for better or worse would have these specific, noble connotations, because they were basically attributes detached from any integrity. Namely, "loyalty" was in freaking non-stop parlance. Made me feel nuts. Also, my husband and I opened a new bookshop on a shoestring in the UK 2004, lost it in 2006, suffered pretty serious financial and psychic damage for a lot of years, but I'd never change that experience. It's one of the "failure" stepping stones that's given me more wisdom to do the next big leap, that I'm on the precipice of now. And so much good came out of that "traumatic failure", and also, bookshops rule. Next time we're visiting my pops and steps in ATX, we'll have to come find his and pick up some stuff.
