There is no updated release ETA for early access. We are taking our time to improve the game in all aspects. The last 4 months the game has undergone a major rebuild from the ground up of all of its systems inside and out. It's pretty much a new game.

New Tripod Designs + Uber pod Previews

We will begin by discussing one of the main concerns we’ve heard since the conception of this idea. People have expressed their fears that the game will be shut down due to the fact that we recently created and began using a virtually 1:1 replica of the machines from the 2005 film.

I’ll be showing work in progress previews of the new machine design we have been working on. The purpose of this new design is to be our replacement for the movie accurate machines should we be denied a licensing opportunity or told to not use designs. While it is possible, it is unlikely that this will be the case. War of the Worlds itself is public domain hence why you see many different shows, movies, and other adaptations. While the idea is open for anyone to bring their own twist into the narrative, it is highly likely that the designs of the machines are property of Paramount so there is that possibility they will step in at some point. Because they haven’t yet doesn’t mean that they won’t. Our hope is to acquire official licensing to use the IP. We are continuing cautiously & optimistic but want to have Plan B ready to go & fully implemented so that should a change in the tripod designs be required, it doesn’t become an interruption to the development process and is as simple as toggling between both options. We assure you this game will be released and you will be able to play using the movie accurate designs through a separate free add on that will come separate from the game. Either way, both of these machine designs will be available upon early access release to switch between.

Across the design team, we agreed this new imagination should visually and technically resemble the original inspiration. We know most of you are all fans of the look of the tripod’s in the movie and should we need to change it for our own imagining, we wanted to make sure the tripod still gave off the same biomechanical aquatic three legged hooded machine feel and that it could still use the same rig and animations as the movie accurate model. This will end up saving hundreds of development hours from needing to re-rig and reanimate an entirely different machine. It will use most of the same animations and be based on the same AI. The switch between either or will be as simple as flipping a switch. There are many unique differences between the designs that differentiate it enough from the movie’s design to avoid issues.

  • Thanks everyone for the feedback! Just a note: the Tripod legs and IK you see was just implemented 2 days ago and is still being smoothed out and improved. Their overall movement and strides will be improved
  • 12:45 just going through an empty field thinking your alone and then suddenly the sirens start going off and you see a tripod standing where you couldn't see it earlier, man that would really make my heart drop.

Now THAT'S a horror survival game. No jump scares. No zombies. Just pure existential fear, your life depending on your survival instincts, your wits and just a bit of luck.

I love how the Tripod stealth works. At 3:48 you turn on the light, then not long after the Tripod notices and starts getting out of stealth mode and not only looks where you were but also fires upon where it last saw you. Then it also(by the looks of it) actively searches for you. I love that so much and is gonna make this game absolutely terrifying

12:53 killed it. Like where do you hide. Captured the fear and panic. Trying to make yourself flat as a pancake to the ground. No where to run. Felt realistic. Sometimes there is no escape when your overwhelmed.
  • You guys absolutely nailed the tripods and their lighting. Lighting and shadows in the world definitely needs to be tweaked. Awesome work!

You guys should add a mechanic that allows players to hide behind/in objects such as wardrobes, cabinets, under the bed, etc. whenever a probe or alien comes searching inside the house, like in the Alien Isolation games. I think it would greatly add to the suspense and fear of the game.
  • Almost 26 years old and the fear has taken me back to my childhood 😂 ambience is so well done… keep up the good work.
  • Even in the development stages this game looks fantastic. And the sound design is stellar. The horns of the tripods is always spine chilling, but it's the rhythmic churn of the machine that gives off an almost primal fear.
  • Oh if you are keeping that super dark night environment you should add an ambush mode where the tripod sits perfectly still and silent waiting for movement and sounds nearby
  • @statelyelms
I love how overblown the tripod horn is, and how it shakes everything. The effects used to convey the effect of the LOUD on the actual person you play are so well done.
  • 9:20 is probably the tensest moment in this entire video. Just quickly ducking behind cover while watching the searchlights sweeping the houses literally just meters behind you.
  • 5:09 Personally I would be to scared to even have my flashlight on in the house if a tripod was so close. Amazing looking game so far, can't wait for more updates, totally captures the environment in the movie just by itself.
  • Oh my god. It’s exactly like how my nightmares would play out, running and hiding hearing the tripods walking, spotlights searching. The real feeling of terror and hopelessness is captured so well. This is a masterpiece in the making.
  • @Tsrashi
I literally went “oh god” at 7:25 when the Tripod emerged from the mist. You’ve captured the haunting atmosphere of the movie perfectly.
  • I have a suggestion for the death sequence of the character. As you know in the movie, you are instantly vaporized, you don't fall over or anything like that, your entire body is turned to ash. I think as a way to replicate this, turn it into an instant black screen upon contact with the laser (or whatever its called in lore).
  • @Xychal
My heart was racing when the Tripod was getting closer and closer expecting it to be right above you but that heat ray at 7:36 made my soul jump
  • @l4dfanatic11
Even though the horns aren't quite like they are in the movie, they're SUPER well done and fit PERFECTLY, I just think the footsteps for them need a little bit of variation and a bit of movement tweaking might need to be fine, since sometimes when turning they're a bit stiff looking, but overall it looks amazing and near perfect, I can't wait to play this
  • @natebit8130
One little detail I've just noticed is that the clouds change naturally over time. That's an amazing detail you have that very few games have and I love it!
  • To me, the most terrifying aspect is that you are better off at night, because then you can tell a lot better when their gaze is on you. But imagine the real world concept of fearing them along with nature and other people that might threaten your survival as well.
