In Japan, you CANNOT put a picture of fruit on a package unless it contains the fruit.

19:22 I live in the USA. Years ago, a friend brought back chocolate made in Switzerland that she said the Swiss government will not allow to be commercially exported. I had one of those and immediately lost ALL respect for Hershey. The comparison with genuine Swiss chocolate made Hershey bars taste like brown plastic.
  • 28:49 Captain Crunch was actually given a 4th stripe in his most recent redesign. After all these years, he's finally a real captain!
  • @myhalflifecrisis
FUN FACT ~28:40 In the US NAVY, a Commander with 3 stripes who happens to be the Commanding Officer of a warship is called “Captain” regardless of not having Captain’s 4 stripes. This person is also known as the “skipper” - it is actually kind of a big deal to be a commanding officer in a warship before attaining the rank of Captain.
  • I see a lot of American dessert recipes online call for Cool Whip. I remember it from growing up in the USA. It's deceptively tasty, but is basically water, oils, and lots of chemicals whipped up. I find the idea now of eating it, revolting!

In the USA never think there is actual fruit in anything boxed or bottled unless it actually states it in the ingredients and if it's last or close to last that means there is not much. Everything boxed, bottled or basically the middle aisles including some of the freezer stuff is all just flavored sugar. I love me some flavored sugar but don't be fooled into thinking it's anymore healthy because of the "fruit" just eat actual fruit if that's what you want.

In Australia we call those all those squash “pumpkins”. Butternut pumpkin is the one we use for soups and cooking. It’s probably the same squash that you showed in the video.
  • If you want to know if its really pure olive oil, put the bottle in the refrigerator. If after a few days it turns sold, it is pure olive oil. If is stays liquid or separates, its fake or mixed with other oils.

Despite never interacting with him, his commentary makes me feel like I am.

Considering nothing else on Cap'n Crunch's uniform is even remotely close to a Navy uniform, the whole stripe thing is redonkulous.
  • It doesn't disturb me at all with regards to apples. I was young enough to remember my grandparents storing apples for the winter such that you can basically eat them till spring. This was done before significant refrigeration - apples in a very cool environment actually don't spoil quickly at all if covered over with wax. And as long as they are not bruised apples will keep on your kitchen counter even for a few weeks.

what Hersheys claims is chocolate with a minimum solids content of 10% is known in Holland as "Cocoa Fantasy" and is achieved by pressing the cocoa solids at 300bar for upwards of 12 minutes and the "proper" cocolate(22-24% here in Holland) is only pressed at 300 bar for about 2-3 minutes, i know this because i worked in a cocoa factory for 9 years

I read of testing a few years ago that found that ALL imported olive oil in Australia failed quality testing - only the locally grown stuff met the chemical standards of EVOO. I don't know whether the imported oil was up to standard when it left Europe, but the moral of the story is Buy Local.

The fake vegan food thing really worries me because my mum is actually really allergic to any form of red meat so if she bought a vegan alternative that was actually meat labelled as vegan it would make her really ill.
  • In Australia the truly free range eggs -you know, chooks running around outside like you think of in a backyard only on a bigger scale are now being called Feral Eggs. This distinguishes them from the commercial "free-range" that aren't actually free birds that only have to meet a minimum requirement of access to the outdoors for a few hrs per 24 hrs.

The difference between what America will and what Britain won't put in their food is astounding. I'm so glad I grew up in the UK.
