To make this better, hook up the sensors to copper bulbs with comparators coming out of them. The comparators can power the pistons and will only do it once, since bulbs require a pulse to be shut off. There is no need for observers in this version, just run the Redstone line from the comparators through to both pistons. Finally, put water on the sensors. It assures they are silent.
