We did have an "AOL" style dial-up service back in the 90's, good times indeed! 😊

Awesome vid! Sad to think that today’s generation may not know what this sound is. Brings back lots of nostalgic memories!
  • I remember it, the noise, the waiting, the inability to use the phone at the same time, and the beginnings of Internet excitement!

I got really good at hearing the "fallback" of the modem back in the day. Just by the tones, I could tell that I wasn't getting my 56K connection. lol
  • Ah, so many memories associated with that sound. I'd quite forgotten the Bong Bong phase of the negotiation.

Ah been a loooong time since I last heard that USR "bong bong" 56K connect sequence. My second favorite after the wild and rare V.Fc connect tones.

Amazing that you still have a computer that runs windows 98 with a landline telephone.

Question: was the modem plugged into an old-fashioned Bell copper phone line? (I would presume, but have not at all tested, that any of the fiber/cable/etc more-or-less-IP-based phone lines would not be happy with a dial-up modem)

Downloading Nvidia Driver. 3 years, 27 weeks, 4 days remaining.........

Fun Fact: dial up is still an option on Windows 11.

It is use for model Network or Phone telecom!! 🤔
  • @MrModaman
Don't you need an old fashioned POTS line to use dial-up?
