LYRICS:
- all (most) lyrics have been changed from the original -
- concurrent lyrics indicated by () parentheses and [] square brackets -

I've been sleeping in a cardboard box,
spending every dollar on a losing lot.
And even though I know it isn't worth much stock,
you know it's better to have tried than not.

Can you tell me who you're trying to fool?
I can't seem to find the point you're trying to make.
And if you think that you can lie to me,
then I think you've made a big mistake.

Going once. Going twice.
Every madman has his vice.
Some have lust. Some have greed.
Some have intra-psychosocial envy.

We've been here like a thousand times;
circled all around this dreadful carousel.
You say that you're so cognizant
of all the patterned lies that you try not to tell.
And yet you still continue putting in your dimes
and continue this revolving hell.

And here he is: the piece of shit
sitting, seething high atop his stolen throne.
Glass is the house of the hypocrite,
and yet you still continue arming stones.

Going once. Going twice.
Let me lend you some advice.
Time is short, life even more.
Yet you wage this silly war.
Going twice. Going thrice.
Guess this means we'll tie the rope today.

See, I've been in total agony, relentlessly,
ever since you came around.
You came around.

[You claim to relish entropy, but I see]
(Stuck, deteriorating helplessly, endlessly.)
[the order which you beg to hold you down to the ground.]
(The 'Ruler' of our Soul, left never crowned, forever bound.)
Your [silence] (violence) deafens more than any sound.

Oh my god. Holy shit.
We were there. That was it.
Did you see harmony,
if only temporarily?
The halves I reviled.
An attempt to concile.
One more time, go again.
No, this can't be the end.

It was mean. It was vile.
Like a freak. Like a child.
But for once, Heart and Mind
had finally combined.
I believe. I concede.
You can finally enweave.
If not for you or for him
then please do it for me.

'Cos I don't know how much more I can take.
This creeping, seeping, sickly, sweeping,
heinous heartache. [headache.]
So please, won't you just attempt to be free.
'Cos I think I can finally be me.

We've been here like a thousand times,
fighting the other hemisphere.
But maybe if we reasoned our rhymes
this dissonance could disappear.

(Quick word of warning, for those keeping track: the next video will be released three (3) weeks after this one, as opposed to the usual two (2). Essentially, I've learned pretty well over time when I'm on the precipice of getting burnt out, and it's a'comin'. So for this song at least, I want to take a little more time to chill out a little. Anyway, here's your little poem.) Throughout our civilised history, mankind has solved so many mysteries. Yet still the questions multiply and grow. This world that lacks consistency makes the answers in the distance seem to taunt us in every step that we toe. Some have peered through the mist and seen the unyielding persistency which our Heart, Mind and Soul seem to feel owed. But in all our civilised history, just one thing remains amiss to me... ...why did the chicken cross the road? 5

“Here he is the piece of shit, sitting, seething high atop his stolen throne. The glass, the house, the hypocrite, and yet you still continue arming stones.” Is definitely my favorite line, it feels as if it means so much in just two sentences.
  • Can this even be called a "cover"? It completely turns into it's own song and I love it
  • @shenbapiro
The way that Chonny sounds happy during the line “I’ve been in total agony” made me laugh so hard
  • Everyone talking about the Mind, but what about the line from the Variations on a Cloud cover? "I've been in total agony, relentlessly ever since you came around" from "I've suffered agony relentlessly, helplessly since you came". Absolutely love the narrative that's been forming.
  • @kilkkilky6621
I think one of the most fascinating aspects of this storyline is the "heart" that's only really being exposed in this song that's supposed to be the "better side" between the two being rash and outwardly mean whereas the mind is, although always cruel, calm and collected

"You claim to relish entropy, but I see the order which you beg to hold you down to the ground." - Mind, calling out Heart as a freak.
  • @p3ach_e101
It's like listening to the bidding for the first time all over again, but better. The touch of The Mind Electric at the end 🤌
  • the lack of filter on the mouth on "i think i can finally be me" hits so hard?? it's a simple touch but i think it's a nice cherry on top of a lovely song
  • @1000dumplings
i dont think we'll ever be ready for a mind electric chonny jash cover... keep up the amazing work dude
  • 1:24 is so good dude “And here he is: the piece of shit. Sitting, seething high atop his stolen throne. Glass the house of a hypocrite and yet you still continue arming stone” goes hard
  • @undyingUmbrage_
at 2:16 in the captions, the twos (heart and minds) shared line “more than any sound” combines into the color/line of soul. this LITERALLY shows the two combined for a split second. just think that detail was amazing.
  • @silly_pigeon
1:50 forward is probably one of my favorite sections out of all of Chonny's covers. The little glimpses of harmony between the heart and mind combined with the soul geeking out like a desperate/proud parent gives me life.
  • @ursa4580
Something i just realised is if youre listening with headphones or earbuds that heart and mind only sing in one side respectively. when theyre both singing and you take off one side you can only hear one of them sing
  • @kitzia13
1:26 reminds me of penelope scott in the best way possible omg
  • I feel like there's an overarching story between these songs and the half's, like the black and white. Like they're trying to become one but they're struggling. Also I love the little snippets of mind electric, rlly building up to when it's possibly covered
  • @Lu4455
A bit out of your current niche but I think you would absolutely kill it at a cover of "Suburbia Overture" by Will Wood
  • I see The Mind Electric lyrics toward the end. "cause i think i can finally be me". Loving your works so much and i just found your channel maybe two weeks ago? Im crazy about tally hall and its nice to see someone incredibly talented giving them justice. Seriously am looking forward to seeing more👀

After going back and learning about the story behind the song, I can't believe I'm saying this but I love it even more! I didn't think that was possible.
  • @vivalex8022
Sounds a lot like an evil reprise to the original, I love it!
