  • Depending on how inclusive the definition of platformer, the first two player co-op would be Joust (1982) To my knowledge the first one to do head stomping is Hopper Robo (1983). I think it was also to use pipes for traversal, and the first to use springs to launch the player character. EDIT: it appears that Springer (1982) was the first to do head stomping. I, Robot (1984) is arguably the first 3d platformer. Alpha Waves is probably the first to do it free movement and camera, however.

  • Great video. I would like to know too which was the first platformer to feature double jump, water mechanics/levels, gliding mechanics and powerups. They are all staples of the genre in my opinion.
