What defines a "mob?" Under what circumstances can violent or threatening action by a large group of people be considered mob violence? What rights do you have to defend yourself in these situations? From Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, AZ to Ossian Sweet in Detroit, MI, in this episode Mas explains how the history of successful defenses against mob violence has evolved, and how that landscape has changed in the modern environment of potential civil unrest.

As retired LEO in large metro area, this is sage advice from an expert. I might add a warning I received from an old veteran street cop when I was a rookie back in the day: Rest assured when you go before a grand jury or trial jury, you won't be judged by 12 fellow officers (ie: your peers.) Same thing with armed citizens, you won't be judged by 12 other 2A advocates.
  • My grandmother was serious when she said we needed to be home by midnight because " Nothing good happens after midnight"
  • I saw my first dead bodies during the LA Riots. I saw police retreat and leave people defenseless. Our school bus was stopped 3 times by small mobs of looters, but they quickly let us through. Our bus driver had the foresight to arm herself.

I’ve been a lawyer too long. 44 years. Massad, you speak with a clarity that the vast no. of lawyers don’t have. I truly enjoy and appreciate the wisdom you bring to the discussion. My very best. SB

The innocent always have to pay for the crimes of the evil intent of others. Laws have to be changed and Politicians have to be voted out of office.

The best advice I've heard. A battle avoided is a battle won.

"Give your enemy a golden bridge to retreat across." Sun Tzu.
  • Exactly, the best defense is quite simply not to be there in the first place. Great video and excellent advice.

All good advice, no doubt, but if the crowd is breaking my glass and trying to drag me out of my car, and/or attacking my wife, the last thing I'm going to be thinking about is what does our State law say. It's survival at that stage.

Spencer Blue @ 5:16 "The protestors are the ocean in which the sharks, the rioters, swim." Excellent.

Good advice, don't let your temper get you into trouble. A bad guy can ruin your life even if they never touch you. Just be aware of your surroundings, avoid situations, but be ready if backed in a corner.
  • All the law has done is become a safety vest for criminals.
  • @dangerman007
Excellent advise. Pretty sad times when, after you defend your life, you go to court to defend your life.
  • i figure as soon as the window breaks , the next action by the mob can kill me or mine so if glass comes in a bullet comes out
  • What law abiders have to endure just to protect themselves and their families is almost crippling
  • @jonnporter6081
It is unfortunate that a nation of laws has degenerated to this point.

Even Bruce Lee said " the best way to block a punch is to not be there when the punch is thrown"
  • @jsprite123
Amazing how the exact same situation can have different outcomes depending on which state the incident happens. There should be universal laws in all of the US when it comes to these matters.
  • Thank you Massad. I have been binge watching a lot of defense, carry, platforms, etc videos. I find your videos to be among the most relevant and helpful.
