Natural killer cells or "NK" cells are also sometime referred to as K cells or killer cells are a type of white blood cell (lymphocyte) that protects the immune system. Natural Killer cells play a vital role in our bodies ability to reject of tumors and virally infected cells.
Early reports show that patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection ( Covdid19) viral infections had significantly lower populations of NK and CD8+T cells. Genetic tests have identified SARS-CoV-2 strain as genusβ-coronavirus.
For patients with cancers, Natural killer cells act as surveillance for the immune system. NK cells help to eliminate a variety of abnormal or malignant cells without disrupting healthy cells.
