DIY Carbon Fiber Felt Burners. 3 sizes. video shows a few DIY Carbon Felt Wick "Burners" I put together. various uses include heating, lighting and/or cooking. these could also be used with some of my previously posted air heaters videos. the carbon felt seems to work great as a wick. the material "wicks up" liquid at least as well as cotton, possibly even better, and since the wicks don't visibly "burn up", they should last for a very long time. wicks were made from a 1/4" 6mm carbon fiber felt welding blanket 12" x 12".

*the fuel i use is a bio-ethanol blend. You can find it by searching for 'indoor ventless fireplace fuel'. It's extremely clean burning. No soot or smoke at all. only releases a little carbon dioxide and some water vapor.

*note: the last part of the video shows the wicks being used in my DIY alcohol lamps.

This works well with olive oil or vegetable oil too which is much cheaper. i made 2 oil candles with 5 wicks in each. Put under a cut section of cast iron gutter upside down which acts as a soot catcher just incase then dissipates the heat front and back of the gutter. Im curently using this as heat source in living room which with -4 degrees Celsius outside its doing a great job as its 19 degrees in here.

Thanks for another great DIY video! Those wicks last a long time, and with the indoor fireplace fuel provide a safe alternative. Would be great in emergencies too! Keep up the great videos.

Would love to see how the felt, cut to size, for an oil or kerosene lamp would work. i.e. light, heat, temperature affect on the chimney , etc... Love your stuff, followed and copied your inventiveness for years.❤

I wonder if people will find heating by biofuel fuel cheaper than turning on their central heating system? Could you show how long using 4 0z of biofuel would last using your method of a carbon felt wick? I just got my natural heating gas bill, and it was over $110 for 30 days, and i live in a moderate climate state. It only hit freezing one night.
  • I saw a fellow in Britain mix used 70% Used Vegtable oil and 30% Kerosene and It Burnt Great . Great Show

How long does the ethanol blend last in the small, medium, or large? Did any of the 3 sizes burn all night long or all day long?
  • @markmagee8896
I’m wondering if there could be a way to safely replenish the alcohol reservoir while the burner is burning?
  • Desertsun or anyone can i use this in a empty cast iron wood burning stove with chimney in my little caravan?? As an alternative method of heat? As seasoned wood getting costly in the uk ❤ your channel you are a genius 😊

How much fuel can you put in the lamp? I assume you can’t fill it up completely to the top.

I must use old filtrated cooking oil. Will it work ? I like american practical way of thinking ! I hate blah blah blah in the air without result.
