The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I was just a little kid, but I knew a class act when I saw it. I have ALWAYS thought of The Fifth Dimension as beautiful people making beautiful music, and I have not changed my opinion in 2024. Glorious.

Taped live at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the 5th Dimension sing their hit single from 1967 (charting at 7 on the Billboard Hot 100). Their record of this song won a 1968 Grammy for Song of the Year and another Grammy for Record of the Year. Written by Jimmy Webb. They also sang "Monday, Monday" during this performance. The group's members are Ron Townson, Billy Davis Jr., Florence LaRue, Lamonte McLemore and Marilyn McCoo. Although they were frequent guests on the Sullivan show, this is the first time the group has been posted since the daily postings began three years ago. Thank you for this performance!

No trash just CLASS all the way. This was played all the time here in the D/FW area when I was a kid in the late 60's.
  • 5 of the most good looking performers equally killing it on this major breakthrough hit.

Besides from singing like an Angel, Marilyn McCoo is also an Angel of Beauty.

Ron really bringing it here. Saw the 5th live twice back in the day--they were always phenomenal. All stage presence and talent. Marilyn a knockout in every way--and that heavenly voice.

It's wonderful to see such a clear and vibrant live version of this wonderful 5D performance from The Ed Sullivan Show. A very ropey version of this footage overlaid with the original soundtrack has been available on You Tube for many years where it has been seen by over 3.2 million people, but to see it come to life like this is something truly to behold. All five members are simply dazzling and pristeen. You can tell they were riding the crest of a wave when they performed this magnificent Jimmy Webb song all those years ago. Simply iconic!
  • @JCNDCIII
Outstanding! One of my favorites. Surprisingly it was not a Billboard #1 song. However, they swept the Grammy awards that year!
  • @montyb10009
Wow! You can really hear Ron here so clearly. ❤❤❤❤
