Nikon Z6 II or Z8 for Wedding Video/Photography

Published 2023-10-19
Recently I've had been alternating between the Z6 II and the Nikon Z8 while at wedding events. Both cameras are great and will get the job done, this video is for entertainment purposes and to answer questions that you may have.

Hey man! I really enjoyed your honesty and humility in explaining your experiences with the Z6 ii and the Z8. I found your video because I am in need of a new main camera and I'm torn between just getting another Z6 ii, waiting for the Z6 III, or getting a Z8. I do find that my current Z6 II does struggle focusing in low light which makes me miss shots I would've liked to have gotten. I use the Zf for video, which looks funny but has been working out great. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experiences!

I had the Z6II and loved it, I didn't necessarily want to buy a Z8, but the Z8 is much better with the AF, it saves me the pain of seeing so many blurry or out of focus photos... I have had photos where I'm like, OH NO, these photos were all out of focus... some of them were my own mistake for maybe not having the adequate shutter speed or using a lens at 1.2 but, most of the out of focus shots were because of the camera's AF, if someone moves fast, you can almost count that it might not focus where you want it to focus, specially in low light... when it comes to image quality, it is hard to tell unless you put two photos side by side... I get we love the look of the Z6II images but the Z8 photos are great or who knows, maybe even better, we would have to compare side by side... when it comes to size and heaviness... it is a tad heavier and bigger but that was what most people wanted, a camera like the D850, a camera that they can hold with all their fingers... it is definitely tricky to design cameras for all photographers many complained that the Z6/7 II size was too small, and now some are complaining that the Z8 is too big and heavy, like, what do we do in this case? lol.... but like I said, I love the Z8 as much as I love the Z6II.... for street photography, vacations, etc I would take the Z6II but if for everything else, I would take the Z8, it is well built, looks amazing and makes me look like a pro. Those Sony and Canon cameras may be light but that may be because if their built. Just my two cents :)
  • Amigo, estou querendo uma câmera para passar as fotos, ainda no evento, pro celular. Quero que o cliente recebe umas 100 fotos ainda na festa. sabe se no app é rápido nesse processo?

I concur. My camera shop had an introduction evening a few months ago for the release of Z8. I played with the Z8 and just found it far too heavy and big. Also, here in Australia it is 7K just for the body. I have two Z6ii's that I use for all my gigs/events/weddings/street and really love my setup. I even looked at the new ZF, but for somebody who does zero video, that stupid back screen is a killer for photographers. I'm more than happy to stick with my Z6ii setup, going into the future. I just came back from 2 weeks in Japan and took over 3K photos. Many of them were on the street with people walking fast, or some festivals people were dancing and stuff and almost all of my photos were in focus. I'm not sure why photographers complain about the Z6ii and say it is too old or no good!
