No one had taken more than 16 appearances to win The Open until Darren Clarke triumphed at Royal St George’s on his 20th.

It was a long wait for man who grew up playing links golf, but he had recently moved back to Northern Ireland, with his two sons and fiancee, and had spent the previous winter playing Royal Portrush in all weathers.
This turned out to be valuable preparation for an Open played on the Kent coast in largely cool, wet and windy conditions. Clarke put on an exhibition of links golf while battling the elements to win by three strokes from Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.

One of my favourite days of watching golf. Great to look back on this, Peter Alliss commentating, Ivor Robson in the starters hut and Big Darren getting his Claret Jug. Wonderful times!

Love that piston-action swing of Clarkey. 🏆 ⛳️🏌️‍♂️
  • I don't mind admitting I shed a tear when DC won this. 10 years have flown by. A genuine geezer and on his day he was untouchable. So happy for him winning a deserved Major. Thanks for the upload of tense, exciting, brilliant day 👍

Awesome display from DC all week but in particular the back nine. Using shots learned on years and years of experience in Ireland growing up, his iron play and driving were magnificent.when your that good, age does not matter, he beat a world class field and gave Northern Ireland 3 wins in the last 6 majors played. Brilliant ❤

Love how friendly Dustin Johnson was to Darren Clarke on the 1st tee.. think more of him now, not that I thought badly of him.. great Masters win.. pitch & putt I suppose for him when he's on form with his driving..

I'm dying as we speak. I had 22+ hours recorded. The wretched weather, the links, it was THE best golf I'd ever seen. Lost, as I upgraded my Dish Network. I found video with EU , but not American format. : ( .... 10 years later. At least, I get this. SO like to have it all.

Brilliant, big darren gave a clinic on playing in the wind during this open, such a good set up and drive through the ball for keeping it low and punchy. It was a tremendous win for big clarke. Thouroughly deserved. Superb video. Thankyou.

No yardage or tracer on first hole hope its not all like this how long was first hole? Drivers I presume? Love St George on WGT Golf on my phone I want the set up for each hole before they drive to much to ask

I love everything but the complete absence of leaderboards throughout. Must be the original broadcasters who added it, not this official source, and for some reason they didn't make arrangements to have it. Insanity, regardless, and very annoying for 5 hours.
  • The overconfident street pathogenetically wreck because capricorn radiologically welcome with a mountainous porch. tough, weary witness
