If you hear digital ad industry executives talk about post-cookie, privacy-first approaches, often they’ll describe a tool as implementing differential privacy. For example, the Attribution Reporting API within Google’s Privacy Sandbox set of post-cookie proposals incorporates differential privacy.

Despite the concrete use cases, though, differential privacy can be a concept that’s hard to grasp. In this video, Digiday senior media editor Tim Peterson breaks down the basics of differential privacy.
