I'm watching this and it makes me remember my social studies teacher Mr dk wanjohi.....he taught us real history....he used to say I'll teach you what is in the books so you pass the exams then I'll teach you what's real so one day you stand up for your country like those who came before you. He taught us about all these heroes and more . God bless you teacher

I am Kikuyu, but the day my fellow Kikuyu wake up and see the light, I will be the happiest
  • @gabucurtis9736
This is history that will never be taught in Kenyan schools,, thanks Namu
  • @SomaHoste
Our heroes lived in poverty, fought in poverty, got Indepence for us...Dying in poverty right now amongst the very own people and land they struggled for. This will haunt Kenya forever.

Thank you for this piece, it's so good to see my late grandmother alive and talking and for fellow Kenyans to learn so much about the Heroism of my Grandfather Baimungi and other Heros.

Thank you so much John Allan Namu....God willing, i will show all my future children this video...SHAME ON THE KENYAN EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR NOT TEACHING THIS IN SCHOOLS!!! This is our true history, not that watered down garbage they teach.
  • I look forward to the day such documentaries will be part of our education system. Otherwise, Kenya cannot pride itself in having a populace that is politically conscious because most of them do not know their history. They are simply guided to make political decisions that affect governance issues based on guesses and political sycophancy. Our education system is really distorted and I hate to admit that I have learned more about Kenyan history from books, biographies, Twitter, You Tube, and The Elephant than from what I studied in primary and secondary school. Thanks Namu for the excellent piece!
  • I am seeing this in the 2020....9th July, and I shed tears over it. The Kenyan in me was crushed by this news.
  • I want to thank you Allan Nanu For starting this most crucial topic. It needs to be told and to be written as History of Kenya. Our freedom is not for free We need education and unbiased information In order to preserve it

This was never taught to us in schools. Now that I know, I will make sure that my daughters know the real truth not what their books teach them.

Kikuyus fundraised for Jomo kenyatta's trip to London to fight for their lands, but after independence,Kenyatta grabbed everything from same people!

John Allan Namu, this is such a well done investigative report. I appreciate the footage of new (now old) Kenya. Keep it up.
  • Is it just me who gets so emotional over this? Kenya is built on sweat and blood of the maumau's, and to think what they went through to regain our land from the Brits and the kind of lives these veterans are living tears me up. It's just so shameful that the government sweeped them under the minute the colonialists hit exit. I hope one day all Kenyans will enjoy the fruits our forefathers fought for.

1 day 1 time leadership will change. New leadership, new founding Father, visionary leaders and patriots
  • @rhodakabuti1924
Watching this in 2022 and I feel a renewed respect for the veterans. Sad that all are being interviewed in mud houses! They should have received the hero treatment they deserve..

I'm so glad to have come across this video at such a time as this. I'm currently on my fourth book that details the accounts of Mau Mau and the struggle for land and freedom. I have had so many mixed emotions since I began this journey, I don't even know what to say and how to feel anymore. Kenyatta should have handled this differently as soon as he assumed power. Kenyatta is the reason Kenya is such a fucked up nation 59 years later! Yes, most of the Mau Mau were illiterate but what would it have cost if you grant them land and peace of mind as the bare minimum? Look at how they have all suffered and perished in poverty. My God. Long live MauMaušŸ˜ā¤ļø
  • @nicknick3111
Kenyatta is the reason this country is still bleeding to date
  • @bongasasa3895
Gosh it's criminal not to teach this stuff in schools, I am shocked!!!
  • @noah2906
A masterpiece by Allan Namu, it's sad to see freedom fighters living in appalling conditions, this is an eye opener
