For anyone who doesn’t know, this is the first cartoon where Betty Boop is human
  • I think Bimbo is a 'rag and bone man' in this cartoon. My mum remembers them from the thirties. Obsolete job: "A rag-and-bone man (or "bag board" or totter) collects unwanted household items and sells them to merchants. Traditionally this was a task performed on foot, with the scavenged materials (which included rags, bones and various metals) kept in a small bag slung over the shoulder."

How can you not love this animation. Timeless. Adorable then, adorable now.
  • What I love about these is how creative the animators were. Like the part where he is asking Betty for rags and his heart flies up, asks, comes down, tells Bimbo the answer and then opens up a little parachute. It took some talent to write this stuff
  • This cartoon is notable for it's very early reference to homosexuality. At the 4:55 mark, a figurine of Atlas is being auctioned off by Betty's friend, Bimbo. Koko the clown agrees to purchase the figurine, acting very effeminately in the process, and Bimbo shouts, "SOLD to the man in the red tie!" The inside joke here is the reference to red ties, which were sometimes worn by Gay men in the early 20th century as an identification symbol.

I love Bimbo! I wish they would have kept him as Betty's love interest.

Such a contrast with "Swing, You Sinners," in which Bimbo faces endless horror for his life of crime.

I don't know why but this is my favorite episode with Bimbo. I love his singing (:

Yea, I agree. And replacing him with Pudgy, who didn't act human, was no improvement. The old team of Betty, Bimbo and Koko was gone !
  • Unbeknownst to many people, when this cartoon was made in 1932, The sister ship of the Titanic (Olympic-that was actually completed and was sailing one year before the Titanic was even finished) was still in service and was still carrying passengers across the Atlantic! She would still continue to sail until 1935, when she was officially retired.

Early Boops feature some of the most articulate, highly-skilled Broadway/studio musicians of the day. Fleischer's studio was at the corner of 48th st. and 6th ave.

Great old Betty Boop. Some truly fine jazz in this one. Stick out your can! Here comes the garbage man!
