Fischer is the greatest of all time! All you have to do is look at his dominance over his contemporaries! He went to the WC match, 130 Elo points higher than the world champion! That is just insanity! BTW, Spassky is considered a great chess player, so dont give me all that “but the chess players were not good back then” crap! Thanks.

Alireza plays exciting, adventurous, and brave chess. I admire his fighting sprits but a little short on maturity and depth for a world champion, specially in the endgame. In my opinion, he has the potential to become the next world champion but he has a long way ahead.

I have a hard time understanding why fisher is considered so high. Yes he won, Yes he was dominant, but it was such a short time as compared to others like karpov or anand....

What considered modern chess when Fischer was playing is old, rusty chess today and what is deemed cutting-edge chess today is going to be old-fashioned chess 50 years from now. The only thing we can use as a yardstick to compare world champions is their chess level in comparison with the players of their own time, not players before and after them. In this regard, Fischer played far better chess than his closest opponents at the time and therefore the greatest world champion.

Well if we are comparing Fischer then with everyone now, yeah Fischer is probably a bit lower. But Fischer’s hunger for the game was unmatched, so I think it’s safe to say, if Fischer had access to all the knowledge these guys have, he would be way up there. How much up there? We’ll never know unfortunately.
