I was raised Catholic and I distinctly remember one instance of being shamed for exploring my body, I was told that masturbation would lead me to develop reptile skin as a curse from the devil. Purity culture and the intense shaming around sex is what made me leave the church and become atheist. I wish more people realised how much it ruins lives. I now strongly believe that waiting until marriage to have sex to remain “pure” for someone is a huge mistake. Side note: Bethany’s hypocrisy is wild to witness 💀
