In this particular community fishing, it is more importantly a social & cultural thing than just catching a fish. It defines part of our identity and upholds the long practices of our forefathers.

As one grows up, he takes up more responsibilities and initiatives in the society, thus standing in the queue according to one’s age is a way of honouring the elders.

Only the males (head of the family) of a particular khel participates except in the absence of his father, one of his sons can represent him. But the one representing his father shall stand in the queue (fish distribution) according to his age and not his father’s. If in case, some youths join this community fishing as a cook, aid or for any other reasons, they will equally enjoy the lunch but they are not entitled to get their share.

The queue is maintained strictly according to their ages from the eldest to the youngest.
The fishes are arranged according to their sizes, the larger ones first and then distributed starting from the oldest member.

The ones distributing the fishes are called asuonyie, they are mandated by the khel. The asuonyie are set according to their age group, when they retire, the next younger batch will replace them.
During distribution, the remaining fishes are in their discretion.
They often give some to those unmarried youths who are not entitled for their share.

From this community fishing, one can learn life lessons; unity, honesty, hard work, respect for elders, etc….!

Good culture Love culture Unity culture Hard working culture Preserving natural culture. It must preserve continue. Sharing must be done equaly in weight. Elderly must be given big size one but same amount must be measure or weight. Younger one may give smaller sizes but every one must share equally amount......thats the practicing equality.
